Hi all, I've read about 30 odd pages and just decided i'd post instead. Like most (afaik) I am having insane problems with Win7 method.

I know the VERY EXACT reason why it is not working for me, but can't figure out how to amend this problem.

My exact problem IS, the moment I spoof ANY mac on my wireless adapter it just refuses to work AFTERWARDS. The miniport will flag a ! in device manager (and dissappear from adapter list in network and sharing)

The EXACT moment i restore the original mac it's fully operational.

So my problem is quite simply Spoofing the mac, and after such getting my adapter to continue working AFTER spoofing.

Everything else in my setup is fine.

Please advise, I have no other options here (android or w8 or xp or router - only win7)

Thanks

PS I have used about 7 different Mac spoofing softwares, including all suggested in this thread. Macpass will say that its working, but an IPCONFIG clearly shows the spoof didn't happen!

It's likely a hardware incompatibility problem that's holding you back. Google "homepass WhateverNetworkDevice" you have and see if others have trouble with that particular device. Intel cards are notorious for resisting mac changes for instance.

You may have better luck with linux which you can run alongside windows. Just try different methods.

THIS^^^

So frustrating. I've spent days going round in circles trying to get this to work. Virtual adapter just won't start or work unless the mac address of the wireless card is changed back to default or to not present.

I hope i can get this to work. I may try the Ubuntu suggestion though...

I'm doing this on a laptop. I wonder if it is a hardware limitation (I've got an Atheros wireless card)??
I tried to do this on my laptop aswell and it has Atheros hardware also. If your laptop was manufactured after 2010, drivers will reload the permanent mac address when you try to change it. If you can find it's WinXP wireless driver you should try to uninstall what's installed right now and use the XP driver as they don't do reload perm-mac.

i did read this somewhere else and i found a site to download the xp drivers from and i got a zip file with these files:

athw.sys
athwx.sys
netathw.cat
netathw.inf
netathwx.cat
netathwx.inf

Problem is don't know which one to install. i attempted to rollback the drivers and then got the blue screen! I had to reboot in safe mode and update the drivers automatically to fix it, so i don't want to blindly do this and mess it up!

Since you can rollback in safe mode try each INF, but I would recommend the one ending with an X.

I have an atheros chip that did this very same thing lol. I still got streetpasses but it was from a different, smaller pool of people.

Yes I know, I said I couldn't change the mac, but I forgot to mention that I can change it IF the first two digits (octets) are 02.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I'm using winXPse on my notebook.

onboard WIFI : realtek RTL8187SE (which I use to connect to Bell Sympatico FIBE for intern

USB WIFI: NETIS 2110, set to AP mode with an SSID of attwifi

My 3ds does pick up the Nintendo Zone, and I can browse, watch vids, etc.

MacCycle doesn't want to work for me. When I manually try to put in the various "netsh wlan..." commandsit comes back with "unknown command wlan". I've read this is because the "wlan" command subset isn't part of netsh until like windows 8.

So I've been using Technitium MAC address changer to change the MAC of my onboard WIFI. Technitium shows that the MAC changes, and after a moment my notebook reconnects to the Bell FIBE internet.

I've tried the first dozen or so MAC's, leaving each on for anywhere from 2 minutes to a half hour, but haven't gotten a single streetpass hit yet (been at this for about 3 days so far). I've tried turning off windows firewall, changing the NETIS USB WIFI from b/g/n to just b, and other stuff I've seen posted here, but none of it helps.

The only thing I can think of is that on the advanced tab under ICS the settings button, where you get all the options to enable specific services and ports like DHCP, DNS, Telnet, FTP, UPnP(TCP), UPnP(UDP), HTTP, and such that for windows XP that maybe there is a specific one I need to check/turn-on.

Sorry I think our wires got crossed somewhere! The first two digits for my wireless card, by default, are 00. Are you saying that your card actually started 02 so you were able to change it? If so, how and why?

I actually downloaded every set of XP drivers I could find from atheros.cz and found using the netsh wlan show drivers command that only the last drivers released prior to windows 7 drivers being released support hosted networks. I've got a feeling I'm at a stalemate with this unless I can find an alternative device to use...

I forgot to mention that it was this last set of XP drivers that allowed me to restart the hosted network but substituted the first digit of the MAC address.

I believe XP pro is the only XP edition to use those commands. Similarly windows 7 starter doesn't use them either.

Is anyone really using the MACs of certain Mii colors?
I tried the yellow and there was like 2 black shirts and none yellow, am I missing something?

I needed yellow shirt for a bloody shield, maybe I misunderstood the point of those MACs. I have change my shirt to yellow before setting it up (router method).

As a side note, I encountered at this MAC Brady from Nintendo. :0 (SoptPass xD)

Thanks for this method!

Do you know if I copy over the XP-pro version of the netsh.exe if winXPse will accept it? I'd probably put it in a different directory or backup the original netsh.exe just in case though. Gonna have to look around for a site with the XP-pro version.

I don't really see how it would make a difference though. While MacCycle would then work, what good is that if I can't even get a hit off the main 4e:53:50:4f:4f:46 by using Technitium to set my mac.

Oh well. Shot in the dark is better than nothing.
