Hacking Softmodding tutorial for japanese black 4.1J Wii needed...

Ok, I thought I post what I exactly did to mod my japanese kuro Wii and to get it 100% 4.1E or 4.2E Wii(this tutorial can be used to get it to 4.1U or 4.2U too).

Hopefully this guide will be of use to somebody who buys a new japanese kuro Wii and wants to mod it and change the region...

Installing software can under specific circumstances brick your Wii, so make sure to read what every program does to your console, take your time as the processes takes their time.

I cannot, under no circumstances, be held responsible when you brick or damage your Wii, so use on your own risk.

!!! DO NOT update via the official update function in system menu because it will complicate things, so just don´t do it !!!

First things first, you will need a empty SD card(1 or 2GB are perfect), a computer with a SD card reader, a common sense of mind and of course your Wii.

.) If you want to update to SM 4.1 or stay on SM 4.1 download this package here, extract it onto your computer and place it on the root of your SD card.

.) If you want to update to SM 4.2 download this package here, extract it onto your computer and place it on the root of your SD card.

4.1 Method:

1.) Bannerbomb
.) Install HBC
.) Install DVDx
.) Install Bootmii as an IOS
.) Make a Nand backup (Bad blocks are no problem)

2.) Run Trucha Bug Restorer
Press B to choose No IOS Reload
When it says Press 1 then press it.
Go to Downgrade IOS15
Press A to downgrade.
When it says "load IOS from SD" press A to continue.

3.) Run Trucha Bug Restorer
Choose IOS15 and press A. (Important)
When it says Press 1 then press it.
Choose IOS36 menu. In there use these settings:
Install IOS to slot (36)
Hash check (trucha) YES
ES_Identity YES
Nand Permissions YES
Then press A on install patched IOS36.
When it says "load IOS from SD" press A to continue.

4.) Run Trucha Bug Restorer
Choose IOS36 and press A
When it says Press 1 then press it.
Then Choose restore IOS15.
Press A to restore.
When it says "load IOS from SD" press A to continue.

5.) Run cIOS38rev14 installer
Choose IOS36 and press A.
Choose Network install and press A.

6.) Run Dop-IOS MOD
Choose IOS249 and press A to continue(When its asking you to install IOS36, then press B to go back to the IOS selection screen).
Press right until you see IOS60.
Press - to select then press yes to install and Sig Hash Check.
Press right until you see IOS61.
Press A to select, then press yes to install and no for Sig Hash Check.
Press home to return to HBC.

7.) Run Wad Manager(This can be skipped if you are already on SM 4.1).
Install System Menu-NUS-v448.wad and exit.

8.) Install Hermes cIOS 202(IOS38/ IOS60), cIOS 222(IOS38), cIOS 223(IOS37/ IOS38) for optimal compatibility

9.) Region Change
.) Firmware Downgrader
In Firmware Downgrader, select the system menu version you want to choose and press the A button to continue. SELECTING THE SYSTEM MENU VERSION BELOW THAN 3.4 COULD BRICK YOUR WII!!
Wait until it finishes downloading and installing the system menu. Press the A button to change the console area. If you got an error (such as -102), press the A button to continue.

.) AnyRegionChanger
Now select console region to change the country (must be USA, Europe or Japan) matching your system menu region if you got an error in Firmware Downgrader.

.) Wii Region Changer
Press the A button first, then change using the left or right directional pad to your system menu region (Europe, North America or Japan). Then press the A button to continue.
Now it restarts the Wii.?

10.) Run Wad Manager
Install SM-NUS-v449.wad for NTSC USA or SM-NUS-v450.wad for PAL.

11.) Use Wii Duplicate Channel Remover v2.1 to remove the duplicate JPN channels on your Wii(Google is your friend because you will need to download the specific package matching your wanted region on your Wii, USA or PAL).

12.) Run Preloader v0.30
Press + and it should install.
Enable all needed hacks in the Systemmenu Hacks section.
Set the IOS the system menu loads to to IOS60 via preloader.
Save settings and exit.

Run mIOS Patcher ! This step is OPTIONAL, this is needed to play backup gamecube games !
Select the mIOS using a NGC controller and press A to install it(mIOS v8 is recommended).

Install cIOSCORP v3.4 ! This step is OPTIONAL, enables backup games playability through disc channel !

10.) Update to 4.2 using Zektors safe Firmware Updater v4.2
Launch it with Homebrew Channel.
It will take some time installing all channels and stuff so just sit back and relax.
After installation reset, you are done.

11.) Use Wii Duplicate Channel Remover v2.1 to remove the duplicate JPN channels on your Wii(Google is your friend because you will need to download the specific package matching your wanted region on your Wii, USA or PAL).

12.) Run Wad Manager
Install IOS70-64-v6687 [Patched][FreeTheBug].wad and exit to HBC.

13.) Run Preloader v0.30
Press + and it should install.
Enable all needed hacks in the Systemmenu Hacks section.
Set the IOS the system menu loads to to IOS70 via preloader.
Save settings and exit.

Run mIOS Patcher ! This step is OPTIONAL, this is needed to play backup gamecube games !

yeah its possible..i coverted mine to usa wii..
bannerbomb..
isntall homebrew
install bootmii as IOS
Use Trucha bug restorer and patch iso36, (see a guide for that)
Install cIOS rev14
use any region changer and change everything to USA or EURO and "save setttings" btu do not downgrade to 3.2
use waninikoko's 4.1 updateer..
use wad manager to install ios 60 and iso61

That should be it..This is from what ai remember so still do some research on your own..but this sums it up as far as i can remember.

i didnt softmod mine but im assuming you can use cIOSCORP but i hear it can be dangerous..

check my other topic called "Black Jap wii converted to USA" or something like that..its laazy and i have to feed my baby..

yeah u can have hermes and rev14 installed at the same time as far as i know..

Ok, this one is already finished, just the ARC thingy to do...

How comes that there is no full preloader hacks.ini for the jpn Wiis?

Ok, so far so good...

Set everything to EUR and German which is my native language but when I try to access the settings menu a window comes up saying that this setting is not availiable.

Would installing a sysmenu 4.1E wad take care of this problem?

You didn't change region correctly, and have a semi brick.
Try changing back to 4.1E.

did change the stuff back to jpn in any region changer and then downgraded the firmware to 4.0E and then used the Wii Region Changer.

Updated through Big N´s server and now I m back on 4.1E fully working.

nice edit.
if success follows, ill link it my guide since it looks awfully similar.
and you have to take off that link or change it, it has cioscorp in it.

i dont think you should install preloader twice. im pretty sure you can leave it until step 13 of the guide and its not completely logical to tell people to install cioscorp as a step.

You need to remove the IOS60 patching with DOP IOS. (This is overwritten via CIOSCORP 3.4 anyway)

CIOSCORP 3.4 should be last in the instructions and also make it optional because it is a very dangerous tool. Also include Neogamma v7 etc...

OK right so I'm a noob, and this is my story so far...

I bought a kuro wii from Hong kong 4.1J which according to the sales is softmodded.
I brought it back to the UK to use but I can't play any of my copied games.
I have the HBC, dvdx, and bootmii installed.
I can run my wii fit game (PAL) that I bought from a retail store in the UK with no problem.
So my question is why can't I play copied games?

Sure, skip ciopscorp. But you should install preloader. It's there to protect you from bricks.

I did this tutorial personally one 2 of my kuro Wiis so its safe.

You can skip cIOSCORP but you wont be able to play backups right through the disc channel.
You can skip preloader also but its not recommended because it is part of your brickprotection on newer Wiis like this one.
