Hi, i don't have internet access for my Wii but i would like to update it to the 4.0 firmware. Is there any possible way i can do it? Right now i am on 3.2E...with Homebrew channel installed.

Could i download the 4.0 firmware files using my PC then transfer to my SD card and run Wanikoko system update 4.0?

Thank in advance!

Hmm i am not sure.
i dont know, if he checks if the files are already on SD.
Anway i think he checks before starting if there is a network connection.

Another way would be maybe Wad Installation.

Get IOS60-64-NUS-v6174.wad, patch it with freethebug, install it via Wadmanager... Done...
You don't need all that updaters to do that offline.

EDIT: If i google after the Wad i find a already patched Version in the 2nd Hit...

Well thats only the IOS which the Systemmenu uses.
For a Real 4.0 he needs also the Systemmenu, IOS61 (Shop Channel use it), updated Shop Channel etc.

All the SM4.0 guides are skipping the installation of IOS61 so i'm wondering a bit.
I might have missed something!?

EDIT: I did some readwork... As i said... ALL guides here are skipping(don't install) IOS61.
EDIT 2: In Kongsnuts guide for updating to SM4.0 the installation of IOS60-64-NUS-v6174.wad via Wadmanager is described
as "alternative method" if the updaters by waninkoko or ppc_gba don't work....

But i forgot something!!!!!!!
Before installation u have to install cIOS36 v7,8 or 9! So u need also a IOS36-64-v1042.wad on ur SD for an offline installation of this! Without cIOS it isn't possible to go back if needed. And an installation of cIOS after installation of 4.0 is not possible at the moment(updates are possible).

Hey all,

At this moment in time, there is no way to upgrade to 4.0 offline.

But if you had access to the files for system menu4.0, ios61 and ios60 you could in theory do an offline update.

I have never seen these files floating around tho.

IOS61 = The IOS 4.0 shop channel uses
IOS60 = The IOS 4.0 Uses overall

The files needed to offline install would be:
IOS61 wad file
IOS60 wad file
Shop channel ios61 version wad file
and the system menu 4.0 wad file

Hi, I usually don't need to ask for help because my questions have normally already been answered somewhere on here but this time I'm a little unsure of something.
Okay, I'm on 3.2E, with HBC, USB Loader1.1 and Starfall installed, but no internet connection (I'm running Windows 7 and can't get the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB thingy working under it). I'm pretty keen to make use of the SD card functions that are implemented in Firmware v4.0, I guess I don't need it but it'd nice to be able to put all my Virtual Console stuff on there.

So, what I'm wanting to know is whether if I follow the info provided by ZerO and just install the (already patched) IOS60-64-NUS-v6174.wad via Wad Manager would that give me the option to run VC stuff from my SD Card? Or am I just going to have to wait and fully update to 4.0 when I get the opportunity?

Thanks for any help that you can offer.

Is there any tutorial on how to dump and pack the wad from wii system?

Its easy:
Dump nand with FS dumper.
Use Trent Fox Wad Packer to create a wad.

As we did see the last pages, my info isn't enough for what u are wanting.

You would need IOS60, IOS61 and System Menu 4.0 Wads.
You would need to patch them with FreeTheBug.
You would need to install them with WAD-Manager in the order IOS60, IOS61, SM4.0.

This should work. It seems to be untested till now coz there is the possibility
to brick the Wii and the access to the needed files was not given.

The access to the files now is easy with help of the NUS Downloader from WB3000
(See this thread http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=146168&st=0 )

Now it's still someone needed who is willing to risk a brick and tests this method of installation.
