it's 2021. the Supercard team has disbanded and their carts are no longer being supported. R4's have caught up and offer the same if not better functionality than the DSTwo. and the DS / 3DS have been cracked wide open allowing a wider rage of alternatives to play DS games and homebrew.
in spite of all this, I'm befuddled by the sheer level of perpetual DSTwo fanboyism and rabid, almost fanatical defending of the DSTwo over every other cart, even in an age where R4i Gold Pro currently offers the same thing for 1/4 the price when it was available.
back in the GBA era, it was known that Supercard SD slot-2 was an absolute joke of a GBA flashcart. Compatibility was absurd. Mario Kart Super Circuit was unplayable with slowdown. half the GBA library simply didn't work on Supercard SD.
fast forward to the early DSi era, and the Cyclo DS, M3iZero and EZFlash Vi were respectable offerings when they were supported. when those carts dropped off, the Acekard 2i and Wood Firmware had good support, while the R4 trailed behind and carried the torch with a budget alternative.
supercard had fairly good compatibility and support on the tail end of the DS lifespan, but there was never really a point at which they "proved themselves" or had any reason to claim ultimate superiority, or "wipe the slate clean" as it were from the awful aftertaste of horrible GBA carts and rocky start of DS One.
its just bizarre how even in 2021, you still have rabid defenders of this one particular out of market cart all over various internet forums, still to this day proclaiming DSTwo as the ultimate king of all carts, all regurgitating the same line about "compatibility" and "no other cart runs on latest firmware, only DSTwo runs all games on latest firmware".
please indulge me for a moment and think logically.
the 3DS screen has a different resolution than DS, so games ran on a 3DS are Stretched Out and blurred, and just look horrible. that's why "Hold Select to boot" DS games or DSiware displays a tiny Postage Stamp sized image on a 3DS.
so, long story short, its DSi or nothing. you need a DSi XL, OR a DS Lite, to play old DS games. or in other words, compatibility with 3DS Firmware is kind of irrelevant. all that matters is 1.45u DSi. running on 1.45u is the benchmark. and in a roundabout way, the DSOnei, and DSTwo, and Acekard 2i, and R4i, ALL pass that same benchmark.
literally the only distinction a DSTwo has over DSOnei, is a boot menu with apps, some emulators like CATSFC, which you could load from the file list anyway, and GBA emulation, which is buggy, slow, and doesn't run all games. Now, why anybody wouldn't simply use a EZ-Flash Omega in their Slot 2 DSLite is unclear, but this "feature" is there nonetheless.
the second point is compatibility. i recently dusted off my DS Onei and for kicks, deleted EOS, and loaded the older Moonshell operating system v3.0 SP8 on DSOnei. mostly because EOS only has 2 views "Thumbnail View", and No Icon file list. (both are horrible), and they removed "File List with Icons" option from Newer EOS loader. Anyway i tested 150 games, all the Pokemons, a ton of RPGs, and of that 150 only 2 games wouldn't run, Tetris Party, and Megaman Zero collection.
first, please, do yourself a favor and download the homebrew tetris, "Tetris The Grand Master Challenge". because Tetris Party is really NOT a good game. there's also Tetris DS. i mean, what can i tell you, Use PocketNES to run NES Tetris. use GoombaColor to run Tetris DX GBC. there are so many better options. Look, if you are that obsessive compulsive you NEED Tetris Party so bad, then Hack your 3DS and install the DSiware version of Tetris Party.
Mega man Zero collection on DS. Bro, the Nintendo Switch has an awesome MegamanZero compilation available. get that instead. OR, play the original MM Zero games on GBA. pop a EZFlash Omega into your Slot 2 DS and play them in GBA mode. they also run great on a Supercard SD btw.
Define irony, newer DSOnei "EOS" Firmware and DSTwo removed, yes REMOVED the ability to sent GBA games from Slot-1 DSOne to a Supercard SD in slot 2, (i tested it, MegamanZero.gba will happily transfer to Slot-2 Supercard SD and run), Older Moonshell DSOnei firmware DOES allow this, and the reason for using the Newer firmware is because MM Zero collection fails to load?. .. Error. does not compute....
ultimately, these supposed compatibility issues are not issues at all. because most of the nonworking "problem games" with really nasty Anti Piracy methods aren't even "that" relevant, that a lot of people would never have played anyway. Go ahead and run older moonshell OS v3.0sp8 on a DSOnei. there's more features and options that were removed in EOS. Go ahead and use a DS Top Toy or Original R4, or other cheap cart.
My whole point is that DSOnei fully replaces DSTwo. there is no reason for people to forever Hamfist the more clumsy and awkward, and More Expensive DSTwo or DSTwo4in1 over getting a Cheap DSOne. and furthermore, whatever other 1.45u DSi compatible cart, like a dirt cheap R4i, or Ace3dsPlus, will do the job just as well.
