Undertale creator Toby Fox releases new game called Deltarune

IMG_2110.PNG

As teased yesterday by Toby Fox, creator of the mega-hit indie game Undertale, his next project has been revealed as a game called Deltarune. The short game is a free download for Windows and OSX, and appears to be a working demo that is being used as a teaser, rather than a full experience. Its title, Deltarune, is also a reference to Undertale, being an anagram of the latter's name as well as the visuals sporting callbacks to certain moments from the 2015 game. Toby Fox claims that he wishes to begin a new game, and that this teaser was released to garner player feedback. On the download page, you can see "warnings" that tell the player to "refrain from discussion" until 24 hours have passed, and "accepting everything that will happen from now on". If you run the free game, it'll notably trigger Windows Defender, to which you'll have to disregard the message it gives you, and run it anyway. Right now it's not known what entirely this game is composed of, but if you're a fan of Undertale, it could be a fun Halloween treat.

* THERE MAY BE MOVING OR FLASHING IMAGERY.
* YOU MAY HAVE TO OVERRIDE SECURITY PROTOCOLS TO USE THE PROGRAM.
* FOR PUBLIC SAFETY, YOU ARE ADVISED TO REFRAIN FROM DISCUSSION OF THE PROGRAM FOR 24 HOURS.
* YOU ACCEPT EVERYTHING THAT WILL HAPPEN FROM NOW ON.

I love undertale! I’m glad to see Toby back in action. Does anyone know if it’s made in the same program as undertale? If it was made using the same engine we could use switch homebrew to run the game with layeredFS

Oh damn, guess I better go back and finish Undertale
^this... I started playing it on PC, then decided to wait for a console port... started playing again on PS4, then decided to switch to playing it on Vita... then kind of forgot to go back to it. Pretty sure I was somewhere between 20-50% of the way into it too.

@Jonna After finishing Undertale with the pacifist run on my first playthrough I don't think that Toby Fox has the skills to create an objectively great game.
Undertale had poor combat mechanics with its 8 direction slow bullet hell controls(cannot be remapped on the settings menu on PC), the world is a mess to backtrack through, the characters are quirky but not a lot more, the visual style is nothing too special, the game is pretty short for its price even when replaying it if you want the true ending.
The story is interesting and the plot twist is good but the rest just feels too barebones.
I had to force myself to play it to the end as I lost interest pretty quickly.

That's understandable and I respect your opinion.

I had lots of fun and found it a very endearing game.

Don't open this unless you want spoilers
This is undertale 2. This is the first chapter. This chapter is about 2h30m long. A little more serious at first but will remind you more of undertale in hour 2

Warning, do not use the uninstall program. Theres a bug that causes it to delete the whole directory it is in, better to be safe and manually delete the game rather than risk losing files.

Messed around a little bit. There are some really good ideas in here. It's like undertale but expanded and revised

We don't know if it's a sequel, a prequel, or a side-story, but it includes many new and original characters, alongside new music and battle system.
This is only a demo, not the full game. Things might change depend on our feedback once it's complete.
Until then, enjoy the demo :)

P.S: Fun Fact: Delta Rune is also the name of the crest of the royal family which you see everywhere in Undertale.

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.
