Update: Digimon Survive announced for western release

iaRoLsv.png

Last week, we saw the reveal of a new Digimon game for Japan. As promised, Bandai Namco gave us our first look at the actual game today during a reveal livestream, showing off gameplay during both battles and story, as well as a trailer. Combat appears to take place in a grid-based arena, much like standard strategy RPGs. It's all in Japanese, as a localization has not yet been announced, however the most recent Digimon RPG game from 2015, Cyber Sleuth, managed to be officially translated in 2016. Digimon Survive is slated for a 2019 release window in Japan, for both the Nintendo Switch and the PlayStation 4.

UPDATE: Bandai Namco announced the game would also be for PC and Xbox One in Japan.

UPDATE: Bandai Namco Europe announced that the game will be getting an official English release. It'll be launching digitally for PS4, XB1, PC, and Switch in 2019.

In this cruel world where has no place except for Pokemon, devs've invested all the hope for digimon franchise into the title :D

A Digimon tactical RPG? What took you so long? Pokemon's attempt at it sucked, so hopefully this one will be better, though I'm grateful for any non-mobile Digimon game.

I love the look of it. It's seems to be a mix of Visual Novel styled gameplay with some FF tactics sprinkled in. Perfect fit for the Switch if you ask me but it's nice that PS4 players are still getting it. Also thank god the Protagonist isn't a yet another silent sociopath. I do wonder however how the next Digimon Story game is gonna look like. it seems to have a very long development period so maybe Kazumasa Habu will outdo Cyber Sleuth.

I legitimately forgot Pokemon Conquest existed until you mentioned it and I started asking myself what game you meant.

Way too slow paced for me. I used to like tactical RPGs (Final fantasy tactics for example) but nowadays i just dont have the patience to sit through games like this anymore. When every single fight takes a few minutes at least it's just too slow. Looking at the speed of the fights in the videos this looks to be about that long. Maybe it'll have some speed up settings in which case i might try it eventually.

some more gameplay:

Weird to see Agumon evolve into MetalGreymon and not Greymon first.
The way they evolve kinda reminds me of the Bankais in Bleach 3rd Phantom. Anyhow looking good. Hopefully it'll get localized and fast.

Meh, seems like a simplistic XCOM or Fire Emblem. Kinda like Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. Nothing that wowed me, considering how many options there are out there for similar games.

I enjoyed Cyber Sleuth and I love grid based combat, so hopefully this is fun!

I might go watch Tamers again to hype myself up.
