what I found interesting is that during the boot sequence the I/O input of the switch actually made calls to the DWORD access tree of the bootstrap, which gave an overflow of a few bytes of memory into the ROM kernel mode of the initiation process into the memory, which resulted in an overflow, while not exactly a buffer overflow, this entire process seems suspicious, in other words Nintendo gave the switch an extra layer of security, but many times an extra layer of protection proves to be cumbersome, it actually defeats the purpose and makes a device more vulnerable, in this case it showed up on the initiation, I've looked into 3.0.0 up to 4.1.0, the process is the same, which meant Nintendo has overlooked this important little process, I bet in the case of a power surge and in the unlikely event that a bit more detail is revealed, Nintendo would obviously smell blood and patch this exploit as soon as possible.

It seems that each firmware version includes an encrypted hash which is checked by the firmware to determine the number of fuses. Unless you have the correct encryption key you don't have a chance.

Regardless given the fact the bootrom is not responsible for the verification process means that the check can be bypassed by a bootrom level hack. As I have said dozens of times. Regardless of this just because it's possible doesn't mean it will happen. I mean a bootrom exploit being the key here makes it all very unlikely and also would make downgrading the system absolutely pointless because the hack needed for a downgrade would allow complete control of the hardware on any firmware... In short yes at some point it may happen but when/if it does it will be useless.

The 'it is possible and don't tell me it's not even if you know more than me about this' kiddos:

You do realize I am no kid and probably better informed on this than most right? I've been tinkering with locked down electronics for years and this is far from my first rodeo. Perhaps you should get your facts straight before you open your mouth.

I didn't even mention you though lol. So the fact that YOU mentioned YOURSELF raises some red flags.

Don't see much of anyone else in this thread explaining why indeed it would be possible to downgrade... so no I don't think so. Now if you have something constructive to add please feel free but if you wish to troll I ask you simply do it else where as I can assure you I have nothing further to say to you in that case

You're saying I'm the troll? I'm being realistic. This whole thread should be deleted and OP should be suspended for spam. It's a big no-no here on the temp and basically every other hacking community to ask retarded questions such as when will this be released? and will this ever be possible?, especially in early stages of development, like the Switch.

Indeed I do call you a troll because you fail to realize this forum is here not only for information but for persons to ask questions. The OP never asked for a release date nor did he/she ask a "stupid question" they were asking a question that honestly has not been answered very clearly much of anywhere because they genuinely don't have the information. Well how the fuck do you expect someone to learn anything if the only god damn input they get is from ass holes like you who simply shrug off there question because they are not as know led able about something as you. Hell prior to this thread I hadn't really bothered to look into the topic but it peaked my interest to know what protections Nintendo had put into place to prevent downgrading. Simply put to you the question may seem silly and without merit but to the one asking it's the difference between knowing and ignorance.... so kindly take your negative attitude and blow it out your ass
