Hi! I lost my dad to cancer recently and I needed to transfer some pictures from his PC for his funeral and quickly popped out my 3DS micro sd card to do so. I got everything done in time and I’m really just glad my dad is not in pain anymore. Nothing can really prepare anyone for the toll cancer takes on its victim or their family.

Today, I put a new card into my 3DS so obviously all my data is gone. So I’m trying to figure out what to do to get my setup back? I was/am modded with A9LH. I can still hold select and start the system into Luma. But I don’t have FBI, the Luma Updater app, Homebrew or anything on my home screen anymore, obviously, I guess.

Since I can boot to Luma and everything, I’m assuming I am still “hacked” and just need to get the appropriate files back on my new SD card. Can anyone please point me in the right direction? It has been a LONG time, but guessing again, I can load FBI from Luma and then basically be set? Thanks guys!

Do you not have access to the old SD card anymore? I know you needed it for the funeral but I'm sure you could get the card back... And I'm sorry for your loss. Cancer sucks. :(

As for your current issue, at bare minimum, all you need is Luma3DS v7.0.5. That's the latest version that supports a9lh. Then follow this to update to boot9strap, then follow this to get FBI/HBL/Luma Updater back.

I have the card but not the data on it. My dad had just just passed, I had to bypass his admin account on his PC and then just erased the card in panic while loading all his funeral stuff onto it. Didn’t really have the time or mindset to just back up the card.

I MIGHT have already updated my system to boot9strap though.. is there anyway I can tell? If not, would it hurt to go through the update steps anyway?

Regardless, the guides you supplied seem a lot like the steps I initially went through for my setup and I really appreciate the kind words and the help!

Certainly understandable, given the possible time constraints you were under for the funeral.

boo9strap uses boot.firm to boot your system, while a9lh uses arm9loaderhax.bin to boot. If you can boot your system as is, press and hold your Select button as you boot to open your Luma settings. If you have Luma v7.0.5 or below, you have a9lh. If you have v7.1 or above, you have boot9strap. If you have a9lh, go through the update steps to update to boot9strap. If you have v7.1, follow this to update your boot9strap version so that you can safely update your Luma version. If you have v8.0+, you don't have to do anything other than follow the second link (Finalizing setup) I provided to you earlier.

Okay. Awesome, so I’m on 6.6. So I would need to follow the first link and update to boot9strap and then the second link for Luma, FBI, etc?

Yep. That's it exactly. :) And after you finish the second link, it's completely safe to update your system to 11.6 (or the latest version whenever it comes out).

Sweet! That’ll be easy enough. Last thing, does it matter that the system is already on 11.6 currently for the steps I need to follow?

To be honest, I'm surprised that v6.6 supported 11.6. o.o But no, it doesn't matter in the slightest. If anything, it allows you to skip the "updating your system step" in Finalizing Setup.

Hahah! Okay cool. Thank you again for the help and understanding my situation.
You're very welcome. I lost my mom a couple of years ago due to other health issues, non-cancer related, but I at least understand what goes on in your head and the stresses that come with it when you lose a parent. Let me know if you have any more questions. :)

Sorry to hear that @KunoichiZ it’s definitely different than you expect when you’re younger. But, I was able to get everything up and running again with the links you provided. Thanks again for all the help!
