Something people arent understanding... even if there was a way to play "backups" (har-har) released tomorrow, they would still not be able to play Mario Odyssey. Any current exploit that would be worth not updating for will only allow them to play "backups" that are up to 3.0 FW. Since Mario requires 3.1 even if there was a way to play backups you still wont be able to play Mario.

So what are you not updating for? To play Zelda and Rabbits? Maaaybe ARMS? Definitely not Mario Kart or Splatoon since those are kind of meant to be played online.

Is it worth it to be able to play Rabbits and Zelda for "free" and nothing else? If you already own those two games then you literally gain nothing by an exploit on 3.0.

So just update, and enjoy the game. The Switch will have maybe 5 to 10 games worth owning over its entire lifetime. Buying all 5 to 10 is not that much money. Definitely not worth buying another switch, thats 5 games right there ($300/$60 = 5).

PS - Ofcourse if you are interested in exploits for the sake of actual homebrew, thats a different story. But lets be honest thats not most people's interest.

I'd say it's probably on track to have that many by the end of 2018, if not sooner. Otherwise, agree with your statement completely. Bought Switch to play games, not run some unrefined Android fork and the "homebrew" that brings. I've got Shield and my phone to do that out of the box.

Im just looking at it historically. Nintendo platforms are typically a first party machine. Everything else is better played elsewhere (PC for example). Considering they got (in my opinion of course) 3 games worth owning this year (Zelda, Rabbits, Mario) and they typically release only one or two of each per generation, we will have maybe another Zelda, another Mario during Switch's lifetime. Rabbits may get a sequel, but overall on the horizon there is Metroid and thats about it. Others can be played elsewhere, or skipped for the most part. Ofcourse there are exceptions... but historically its hard to get together a list of more than 10... maybe Ill give you 15... must own games on Nintendo platforms per generation.

Look at Wii... had a billion games... very few actually worth owning, all first party.
Wii U... didnt do so well, but still around the same number of games..
GameCube... same
N64... same
SNES and earlier... that was a different time... PC gaming was in its infancy and those were flagship consoles of the time (unlike today's nintendo consoles). And exclusives ruled the world. Even then, they just releases SNES classic with 20 games... that pretty much covers all must own games for SNES (there are a few missing like CronoTrigger etc.. but there are also garbage games on there too that could be taken off).

Not saying you cant come up with a list of 20 or whatever... just saying its not like it would cost a fortune to own all of the ones worth getting.

so my strategy was buy a second switch since my original is on 3.0 and i got pegaswitch running. So I got it this morning and guess what. I couldn't install the game. My other switch was still active on my nintendo account. Had to call nintendo to get it sorted. I was like wow...

Why would you waste money like that? Read this --> https://gbatemp.net/threads/update.487882/page-2#post-7657718

negative thinking. Honestly what excites me about switch running homebrew is not being able to play backups. It's all the homebrew software the scene will develop. If my incredible collection of hacked consoles is any indication that first switch will truly be incredible.

I take it u know nothing about apps like coinops or mugen huh?

Sure I know of them... but have zero interest. Why use a switch for this stuff? You can run that on any of many rootable android devices that are fraction of the cost of a Switch.

Not negative thinking really. There is just very little point on getting a hack on 3.0. If we were 3 years into Switch's lifetime with a decent game library that would be a different story.

so many reasons why it would just bore you. Those android devices of which you speak are generally clumsy attempts at say what the vita does much better. I anticipate the switch having an even better scene than vita does now in prob like a year or so...

Doubt it... maybe 3 to 4 years at fastest. Vita scene is not that active, there are a few people that are still doing stuff on it, but its like 1% of 3Ds's scene. I use my Vita almost every day by the way.

Regardless, it sounds to me you bought a device with no scene in hopes of there being a scene at some point in the future which may not happen at all and you invested $300 into that idea... OK

are you behind on vita or something? lol. That scene is beast lately. It sounds like you had issues with retroarch or something previously not sure. But between latest retroarch and adrenaline vita is mopping up. Now mind u i am just using that as like hey lets compare this device like a pstv which gosh could be found for dirt cheap at one point say to an android tab...which just can't do the same things...

dude im on youtube look me up if you want to see what i mean

lol you talked about money again. I don't worship money man. you should rethink such ways. I like fun and being happy. And I know in my heart the scene will make me happy yet again with the switch. I think you are just sour apples in terms of that. Don't hate congratulate.

I will admit that neither you or i know how long it will take. I say a little over 12 months. You say up to 4 years the earliest. All I have are the last 8 modded consoles to base my opinion on. In many of these cases we are both right. In some I am actually underestimating. So it's anyone's guess. But it is you who brought up time. In my view if it takes 3 or 5 years I am still happy with my strategy.

Oh and the red mario case is cool too lolz

For someone who didn't own a Wii U there have already been 5+ games I felt I had to pull the trigger on, and I'm not gonna lie, even with Amazon discounts it's starting to get expensive lol. Still got Xenoblade Chronicles 2 this year, too.

in my case it's all the cool unique moments homebrew gave me dating back to the original xbox...

stuff i never could reproduce with the stock systems. Like playing dreamcast on a 360 or nintendont on the wii u Homebrew consistently delivers unique gameplay

Umm I thought this was about a update problem, guess I will just say that if a game ask for a update before playing, you can't play it without updating it. So I guess that means you are required to update the game in order to play.

dude i have had people travel across states to meet me and see my modded consoles. I know the appeal. It's a hard thing to explain to those who aren't used to it. I go back to breaking the plastic on the snes slot so you could play the import jap carts...it's a lifestyle really. I think humans should do these things lest they get lulled and complacent with their taste and wants in terms of media and specifically videogames. Be an owner! Push your machine!

Personally I think in terms of the thread tis ok. Many who have under 3.0 and want to know what they need to do. So far I have seen multiple posts of people saying those on 3.0 will get an update prompt but could play and ignore it. Not sure if that's true. This thread seems to indicate no. Thats what brought me here.

Bla bla We can use a Preview Version from oddesey Crack the timelimit and voila we can play oddesey in 3.00
The Game are playable before 3.01 comes out
Step 1: find and dump a Preview Version from odd
Step 2 backuploader
Step 3: a little Memory Change for the timelimit Or Change some Files with the fullversion..
Step 4 play oddesey on 3.00

Dont Loose Your hope

Or a entrypoint maked on 3.00 how we did with dsvc on the wiiu and
After the Update we can use it as 3.01 entrypoint

Only Problem is 95 percent are already on 3.01 or higher =small or Very small userbase
Most People cannot wait One day After oddesey realeased to play it

No dude, doesnt work like that. But even if it did you are missing the big picture here. People think that having an ability to play backups will allow them to play all the games, no it will only allow them to play games that came out before 3.0. What good is having the ability to play backups is in 2020 if the only games you can play are from early 2017?

If a better hack become available to allow you to play all the games in 2020, then you mighjt as well update now and enjoy whats out right now, because clearly with a better hack it wont matter that you updated.
