Buttons in general have nothing to do with the game code, all the inputs are handled by this absurdly massive file called PADReadGC.c.I think I found the pattern here, it only happens when buttons are not enabled, example during intros, loading screens, saving screens, un-skipable FMV, etc... It doesn't ignore because I guess the HOME button works outside the game code.
Your PNGs work for me, something with your OS isn't pulling the PNG header as expected. I will look into another method of PNG verification. In the meantime, here is a version of the script that bypasses the PNG verification. Please put the contained BAT file in the TOOLS\Storage folder to overwrite the existing script base.GIMP converted png

Tested in the same intro part in Eternal Darkness and it now exit smoothly
