I used to read the Super Smash Bros Brawl manual constantly when my parents were using the TV. It was like getting to know the characters a little better after playing with them for so long.

i remember when sony/ms games started putting manuals on the game rather than a printed manual and people were bitching.

thing is, who actually sits and reads a game manual, who actually needs to refer to it in order to know how to play the game.

manuals are just a waste of paper and to be honest i can see how devs can cut production costs by placing a digital manual within the game.

i think the only time i have ever read a game manual was while taking a dump and wanted something to read.

Well, I was born in the 70's. Gamed all the way till now.
Got them manuals waaaaayyyyy back then and never used them (except the Zelda LTTP golden booklet for the hardest puzzles).

Modern games have an elaborate training level on the start of the game so.... noop don't need them :D
(they will just collect dust in the cupboard)

And they are useless too now we have the era of the incredible INTERNET

You are dead right, i feel the same way..

To say that manuals are pointless it still proves you don't know what you're saying.

Didn't realise i needed your permission to have my own opinion.

The reason that the games have manuals (at least in Nicalis case) is because of nostalgia (they're NES styled) and because the physical prints are limited.
Seems to me like a decent enough reason to include them.

Just a heads up : got the European (German) version yesterday and there was no manual included.
Gosh, sorry 'bout that. So it's only specific regional/country versions that contain it.

What even is this discussion now? The point of this topic was to list games that came with physical manuals, not whether or not they were necessary.

Some people like having manuals. They like looking at the art or neat little tidbits that developers used to throw in. Is it necessary to read them to actually play the game? Hopefully not in this day and age, but that's a different matter

Since when did a manual become a luxury? A manual should always be included with stuff. I got a bluetooth speaker that had no manual, I had to figure out how to use it on my own, that is terrible. I know least games had manual included on the game, like super mario maker on wii u has a manual on disc, and on 3ds, ps3 games have it too. Yes I understand the games have enough explanation of a tutorial to use but people like manuals just as much, detailed pictures and artwork of things while reading with some creative writing to make you feel like you are trying to learn more about the game, games story plot existed in the manual, and was the only way you would know any of the back story the game never explains.

They do have those still and it's called buying the limited edition or rip off version you pay £20 extra for lol.

Don't you love how everything has to be online? Remember when you bought something and it was 100% there on day one? now your tvs are not even 100% till they download an update.....

I don't really care for manuals, I'd rather use my intuition.

it still costs power to read digital manuals. and power consumption will not be green until we have fusion reactors

... Or solar power, or wind power or any other form of power that doesnt use fossil fuels

the same can be said about games themselves.

its rare you can buy a game these days that don't have a day one update.

its also rare to find a game these days that focus on the campaign mode.

you pay near £50 for a 1 hour campaign and the rest is all online maps/dlc content.

that's right. then they shut down the servers in 2 years and the game is useless.. Such is progress...
Unlike most i like playing games well after the companies declare them dead.. The generation after the xbox x and the ps4/pro will probably rely on online even more then the current gen. my guess is they wont have any disc drives. Then it will get to the point that the console does not even work unless is connected online.... Specially when it will be a stream box.....

Natural gas, petroleum, nuclear energy. These aren't renewable. Once used they're gone.
Fun fact: its entirely possible to go completely clean in terms of how we obtain our electricity by switching to renewable sources like solar, wind (by putting solar panels in places too hot to be habitable by humans like in the desert, and wind farms in the middle of oceans where theres a lot of wind and no one there), however the main reason why we dont do it is because investors dont see a returnable profit from funding renewable energy sources i.e. they only care about lining their pockets instead of wanting to minize pollution:( Renewable energy is so great that in some countries, they accumulate so much electricity from solar and wind that these electrical companies actually pay You to use it all up! (See this case in germany https://www.google.com/amp/amp.timeinc.net/fortune/2016/05/11/germany-excess-power/?source=dam)
Our progess on the switch to renewable energy is being halted by greedy capitalists that favors profits over the well being of our environment :( Obviously a switch to establishing these reneweable energy resources wont be simple, but its a project that will be better for everyone and our planet in the long run

Other interesting article about this topic: https://socialistworker.org/2017/04/20/why-capitalism-clings-to-fossil-fuels
