Tutorial  Updated

Booting GW with B9S (and some help)

Important:
This workaround will work if you have a sys/emuNand with <= 11.2.
11.3+ are currently NOT supported by Gateway itself!

Also, I advise against a sysNand-only setup with GW.

For better/clearer instructions please follow the updated Guide by @Temptress Cerise - https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-using-luma3ds-gateway-on-b9s.431691/

For the GW Uses out there, theres a possibility to boot the Gateway Card without having to wait for an update (that would only be faster..), so here's a workaround:

1. )
Follow the Steps on Using Luma3DS with Gateway on v2 A9LH

2.)
Get the dev Version from BootCTR9 for BS9 and extract the .firm-file to the luma/payloads folder, rename it to bootctr9.firm

3.)
Make Sure the down_v2gw.bin and the gateway.bin are also within the luma/payloads folder

4.)
Change the boot_config.ini from BootCTR9 to boot the down_v2gw.bin , for example as DEFAULT-Entry, to start automatically the GW-loader:

Code:
[DEFAULT]
path = luma/payloads/down_v2gw.bin
delay = 1000

5.)
Start 3DS and go to LUMA-Chainloader (Holding START at boot), choose your bootctr9 -> wait.

6.)
Enjoy GW again ^^.

EDIT:
- Add Disclaimer for 11.3+
- Link to @Temptress Cerise updated Guide with my instructions, but better written xD
- Add B9S 1.2 compatible release-post of BootCtr9 ( June, 6, 2017)

Found the problem. I'm using a 16GB memory card. Too big for the R4. Messing with the UI.

Note:

  • Do save the decompressed Wood R4 Kernel into the root directory of your Memory card
  • Do not use any Memory card larger than 2GB for Wood R4 (R4 V2, R4 Version 2)

That actually depends on the card itself. If it's Gateway's Blue Card, SDHC (>2GB) cards works fine (mine is 4GB),

Ugh then why am I getting this terrible UI where the background of the Gateway menu on the bottom of the 3DS is the same color as the text for each game?

It's something within this file right here:
_rpg/ui/uisettings.ini

It's got color codes which if I play around with I could probably fix the problem

Hi! I just finished installing B9S+Luma3DS, according to the guide at: https://3ds.guide. I updated firmware to 11.4, as stated in the mentioned guide.
I just followed the guide, so I don't think I have an EmuNand set up, just SysNand.
However, now I wanted to use my Gateway card to retrieve my savegames.
Since I'm already on 11.4 is there a way to do it? Can I downgrade or something?
Thanks in advance!

Do you have an old NAND backup? If so, you can use it to create an EmuNAND that will still be compatible with Gateway and will allow you to retrieve those saves.

Unfortunately, I don't have an old NAND backup... I only made backups of my SD Cards (on 3DS and GW) before installing B9S+Luma3DS.
Is there anyway to create a downgraded EmuNAND or something like that?

There is. You can create an 11.4 EmuNAND by cloning your current one with GodMode9, and then you'd have to use CTRTransfer to downgrade it to 11.2 and use Gateway with it (for the full experience, or just to retrieve your old saves). Unfortunately, I've never done something like that, so you'd have to research or wait for someone who does know...

Ok, gonna try to research how to do the cloning and downgrade with CTRTransfer. Thanks for the help!

its been many years since i touched a 3ds, but i had set my jap one up so i could hold a button on power up that would boot something ( i cant remember what its called, yellow something) which then booted to homebrew loader and from there i could boot gateway card.

I thought i also did the same on my autrailian 3ds but i guess i didnt, now for the life of me i cant remember what i did years ago, its on 9.x firmware for gateway, but i cant remember how to set it up so when i power up i hold a button and it boots into homebrew loader and then boot gateway.

as i want to return and make some cheat codes, so will need gateway unless other cfw have the ability to find your own cheat codes?

If your internet speeds are fast enough. Streaming 4k takes alot. I used to only have 20mb sec, and 4k struggled. Now I have 300mb sec and 4k plays fine.

I think Game streaming should work like this.... Local Hardware able the run the game fine, game engine and common assets stored locally, all FMV and music and textures could be streaming

Or free government supplied high speed internet be nice also. Like Obama care. Xdqwerty that's cool, its time consuming but rewarding once done or playable, to see what you've made from scratch. Animations take forever, but worth it.

There is a bullets behaviour you assign to your character, that makes the code easier, under "behaviours"
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
i meant that when the character is pointing to the right, the bullets spawn where they should, but when he is on the right, they move to the right but the spawn point is incorrect
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Itch.io has lots of free assets also. Under the bullets behavior tab, there is a "rotate bullets" option, can try that. Or in the code can try
    - fire bullet Player.X(PlayerDirection)

That's cool tho, I'm proud of you going back to it, not giving up. It is difficult at first to learn, but fun once you get the hang of it. I think I've watched every tutorial video there is, but I still struggle sometimes to get stuff to work right. But gotta keep trying dif things, and eventually you will get it right.
