Well is easy to control, square soft actually made shooting games before, they also made racing games. Just the idea of a shooting mini game to travel between worlds wasn't a good decision in my opinion. Usually in final fantasy, you get a air ship, that a player cid flies, called highwind, (name and pilot may change between games) But that was one world. In KH you have multiple worlds that you have to travel between space and time or something. The good part is that after you actually visited a place once, you can just warp to the world without the shooting mini game.
Of course i won't say they didn't work on it much, they let you collect parts, build your own ship and have high score system and rewards so it actually was a project to work on, not just a common lame shooter. Just i didn't find it fitting for this kind of game. Even including the mini games in some of the games. Skateboarding ins KH 2, some mini games was part of the story, while some was just a mini game to give variety like final fantasy 7 and the wonder square.
While in KH Dream drop distance you free fall to get to other worlds, is about the same as the gummi ship but is shorter and maybe easier than a shooting game, still is a slight improvement but a simple stage select would have been nice. Just i didn't really like that game either. (regrets to buying the 3DS and ps4 remaster of the game)
