Nintendo Switch Sales Across Europe Are Largest In Nintendo Hardware History

Nintendo have just confrmed that the launch of the Switch and sales of Zelda are the largest in Nintendo's history, for both hardware and software.

Here is Nintendo:

We can confirm that, across Europe, Nintendo Switch sold more in its launch weekend than any other Nintendo hardware in history.

Launch title The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has not only been bestowed with some of the highest review scores in gaming history, it's also the biggest-selling Nintendo launch title ever in Europe, even outselling Wii Sports in first weekend sales.

And all this in March – traditionally a quiet time for the games industry.

Nintendo didn't release any specific numbers with this press release.

Wrong, no d pad. 3ds reigns supreme! 3ds for LIFE!
Okay...I guess I miscommunicated things a bit there. I wasn't talking about personal flavor or opinions but about solid technological features. What I meant to say was...

(As it stands, I'd say this is the best mobile gaming platform the most technologically advanced platform when it comes to mobile gaming on the planet. The question is: will they exploit that market to the fullest or will they dwiddle on until being forced to move by competition? (like...the smach z) )

ya know, all some third party would have to do is produce a modular clip on replacement for the left joycon that has a dpad. or nintendo could do this (but they won't!)

Nintendo Switch and Breath of the Wild has outsold the Wii and Wii Sports in Australia meaning its also the largest launch weekend for Nintendo here as well :toot:. Again no number given but it must be more than 33,000 units since that was the Wii's in the first 4 days.

I don't understand why people complain about Wii U ports and at the same time insist that the Wii U is a failed console.

So, if no-one bought the Wii U, why not port the whole library over to the Switch instead of just Mario Kart?

Besides, I dunno, but I don't really care about the missing D-Pad... I don't even notice it while playing.

"Same price" "(marginally) More powerful"
*insert all the cons*
Than a 4 years old console.
:wtf:
I'm unsure what you're complaining about here. That console generations exist? FYI Switch is more powerful than Wii U even in portable mode, and that's 40-50% of its overall performance. Meaning Switch is at least twice as powerful as Wii U. That's not "marginal," or if it is, it's only as marginal as the gap between PS3 and PS4.

The switch should be compared to the 3DS (it's based of it) or to other handhelds, tablets, mobile devices etc.
The switch have a pass-thought dock, to show the display on your TV ....does a pass-through dock make it a home console??
The Wii U is a home console, not a handheld....the switch is a handheld not a home console.

They probably could've had an even more explosive launch sale numbers if they had more stock. Sold out everywhere in the US within 2 a.m. of the opening night.

Switch is a home console and portable console in one. It functions as a home console, and that's all the more that's required to be a home console. I know there's some desire out there to believe Wii U is "special" in some way, but it really isn't. Again, Switch is more than twice as powerful as Wii U when docked and used as a home console, so if the latter qualifies as a home console, the former certainly does as well.

I rather enjoy a life of taking it easy. I haven't reached that life yet though.
