The pricing of the R7 lineup starts from $329 for the R7 1700, R7 1700X at $399 and $499 for the top dog R7 1800X. AMD hopes to take on the likes of the i7 7700K, 6800K and the 6900K with the respective processors. Pre-orders from major retailers today at 1pm EST, ready for a general hard launch on March 2nd.

When you are old enough, sure you will have been fucked by Intel and AMD in different occasions.
It's like they take turns to gangbang you.
Like I said, I still feel the burn of my Intel P4 1.5GHz and its 256MB max RAMBUS (because price).
And the burn was real, those memory modules could probably melt steel.
Fucking useless PoS.

Uh, dude, I'm 31 years old lol, I've used Intel since 2004, never had a single CPU fry, same with NVidia GPUs, never had a single one of theirs fail. I had an AMD Athlon fry on me, and an old ATI/AMD GPU constantly give BSODs on Windows XP. Can't say the same with Intel or NVidia, nothing will convince me to switch lol. *Shrug*

Well, I've been using Intel since 1989, and AMD also in several occasions.
Only two Intel CPUs died/fried on me.
No AMD CPU ever did, but some times they performed like ass.
Well, the same about the Intel CPUs, the Celeron 300 I had at some time was a massive piece of shit.
And the very early rambus based Pentium 4 was a very expensive piece of shit.
Regarding late generations of CPU, Intel corei was way above AMD's offering, but in the times of Pentium 3/4 the state of things was the opposite. They sway.

AMD still suffering from that curse it seems.

One bad experiance years ago = amd bad, never to be forgiven.

You even see it now with people insisting that amd drivers=bad, while any issues with Nvidia are isloated issues or just quietly swept under the rug, while issues with years old amd drivers are constantly brought up.

AMD really need to turn that perception around. Not sure how though.

My parents still use an Athlon 3000+ single core CPU that I OC'ed to 1.8Ghz. They had a Core2Duo E7500 that died out of the blue. Point? Cases can be made for bad products for every company.

AMD clearly is onto a good product this time around. Bulldozer was a bad, outdated framework to begin with. Ryzen is a fresh start, thanks to Jim Keller (who helped Apple make the most powerful Cyclone Soc 2-3 years back and laid the foundations for future Apple SoCs, look at A10, dominated both Single and multicore performance).
I think it's only gonna get better.

Plus AMD CPUs aren't as good for emulators as Intel CPUs are it seems, I had someone go after me because he swore AMD was the best and Intel sucked; truth is, there's no definitive winner.

That's because previous generations didn't have good IPC, this one does- we'll know for sure soon.

there is only one interesting question. HOW FAR can the 1700 be overclocked?
I don't care for XFR 100 MHz boost :) lol!
I want to manually set that cheap 8 core to 4,2 GHz. That would be awesome!

Overclockers uk (big uk retailer) have them & am4 motherboards up for pre-order now for those in the UK looking.

1700 is £320, which is slightly cheaper than the 7700K. Price is basically a direct coversion from $330 + vat before anyone starts crying about being "ripped off".

Assuming it lives up to it's billing when proper independent reviews start coming in, that's good. My 5820k was £290, £30 more for 2 extra cores and that's after the £ was thrown off a cliff compared to when I bought.

It all comes down to your motherboard. Better, costlier mobos will have better components to handle overclocking. And of course, cooling depends on you. I think with a bit of OC magic Ryzen can easily crush Kaby lake in single core performance, if they don't already do since all comparable Kaby Lake skus seem to be clocked almost a GHz higher.

components (VRM) and OC is the one side. the other side is: can ryzen clock as high as intel? or is there a wall at 4.1 GHz?

I think their silicon can go higher. Guess we'll just have to wait for the pros to push it to the limits. (GamersNexus, Jayztwocents are trust-able guys)

they are certainly not testing every single chip for overclockability. so there is no real binning by factory. I am quite certain the 1700 will go as far as the 1800X will. @ Kaby Lake singlecore IPC I am on board and will toss my old 3570K @ 4,5 GHz.

I think the 1800X will be a better overclocker. What else is to differentiate it form the 1700 then? Same cores, same threads etc The 1700 does have a lower TDP, so that is to its disadvantage.
The 1700X might be the sweetspot imo.

acutally the TDP is an advantage. there is more headroom for OC!

What I've been waiting for. If this spurs intel to release something even deadlier, I'm all for that. But AMD has better bang/buck than intel (well...not recently, but historically), so I'll pick up one of their chips later this year, along with VEGA.

I went today and looked at a motorcycle someone was selling. I get there and the battery on it was dead, so the guy grabbed a battery charger and hooked it up. He plugged it into the wall, and the motorcycle sparked and started smoking. Come to find out the bike uses a 6 volt battery and the guy had the charger set to 12v. I said sorry to the dude and walked away. I felt bad for him tho.
