I read somewhere that using a 128 GB sd card can cause technical issues like slowdowns, can anyone confirm this? I know there is a limit to the size of external HD's that can be used on the PS3 due to the system not having enough memory to cache it all, maybe this is similar for the 3DS?

im wondering if its not the 3ds but the card. it could be beginning to fail or heavly wear-leveling. Increased wear lleveling is a sign of weak nand flash. id be nice if someone was interested in coding a sd card speed tester for the 3ds.

I use a Sandisk 128gb on a n3ds and it works fine with over 50 3ds installed cia's and around 30 VC titles so far. Only noticble slowdown, is arm9 payloads take a bit longer to boot sometimes with A9LH i.e Decrypt 9 and Hourglass, as the text is displayed on-screen for up to 4-5 secs before getting to their menus.

Yea i use a 128 gb SD card, it works fine, and as retro said, the boot up is the only thing that does take a little longer. Just be sure to buy your card from an official vendor. Don't get scammed like i did ;_;

Someone did, I remember trying it, and the 3DS gets nowhere near utilizing the full read speed of UHS-I cards. Can't seem to find it now though.

I buy all my SD cards from Walmart, and never had a bad one or been scammed. They always have the Samsung EVOs on sale too.

Yep, Evo's are fine, which I use and i have another one for my WiiU. There has been some salty comments about them, yet I put it down to lack of knowledge and fakery:)

Yeah, I've never had any problem with them. Though I've noticed the 128GB slowdown when it comes to loading A9LH payloads, like Decrypt9WIP... The text will hang for 6 or 7 seconds before letting me in, compared to being instant on my 32GB card. CIA installations of games are noticeably slower as well.

I'm using a 200GB micro sd card, probably about 150GB full, and if it runs slow anywhere, I haven't noticed it, seems the N3DS runs as fast as it always has to me.

I had made a similar thread a year or two ago.

It's not the card itself, but the way it's formatted. It has to do with the allocation unit size - just formatting it as FAT32 isn't enough, as you have to choose an allocation size when formatting.

I forget what I ended up going with, but I'm using a 128GB card with a9lh and it works just as fast as smaller cards.

I am curious though, when making emuNAND if Gateway's launcher keeps the same sector size or reverts to a default one. Because this would all be for moot if it doesn't keep it.

  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
never had that i don't think
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)

@The Real Jdbye, I considered that, but i'll have to wait until i can get the eu version in the mail lol
