TWLoader v1.4.2
Oh yeah, more support for some flashcards, and a new feature!

Changes/Improvements:
  • Improved box art loading. Limit is no longer 10 images.
  • The boxart folder now has a folder for flashcards inside.
  • An NTR/TWL-mode option to have rainbow colors glowing in the Notification LED is added. (credit to @MarcusD).
Bug fixes:
  • Crashes no longer occur when there are little to no box art images.
  • Some box art are no longer shown as "?".
  • TWLNAND side: When running Slot-1 card/flashcard, ARM9 CPU values are fixed, so the NTR value is no longer the TWL value, and vice versa.
The following flashcards are now supported:
  • Acekard 2(i)/M3DS Real/R4i-SDHC 1.4.x
  • Ace 3DS+/Gateway Blue Card/R4iLS/R4iTT
Files/folders changed/added:
  • sdroot/_nds/twloader/boxart/flashcard/
  • sdroot/_nds/twloader/cia/TWLoader - TWLNAND side.cia (renamed from TWLapp.cia)
  • sdroot/_nds/twloader/NTR_Launcher.nds
Re-extract the files/folders in the "sdroot" folder to the 3DS SD card root, and re-install "TWLoader - TWLNAND side.cia".
Also, the packs for the now-supported flashcards are up in the OP!

Okay, let me make sure I understand what this does completely.

I can load homebrew .nds ROMs from the SD card, but not retail ROMs.
I can insert my DSTT card into my 3DS and load ROMs from it, including retail ROMs.
I can only get to a single ROM on my DSTT, and it has to be named "game.nds"

Is this all correct? Is there any way to access YSMenu on my DSTT, and use that to get to my games?

Forgive me if these are dumb questions, but I promised my old DS Lite to my little brother as soon as I got to where I could use my flashcard in my 3DS, with the added condition that if I could get it to where I didn't need my flashcard anymore, I would load it up with the types of games that he likes, and let him have that as well. If I have to get into the MicroSD every time I want to play a different game in order to rename files, then I think I'll try to wait just a bit longer to see if that restriction gets removed later on. If I don't, I have enough actual carts that I can probably give him my DS and he can play with it as-is until I can give him the flashcard as well.

  1. Yes.
  2. Yes.
  3. No. More than one ROM can be used. The instructions will tell you how.

Is this really safe?
It's my understanding that there isn't much fault tolerance at all when you're screwing with the MCU that controls the LEDs, and that it's possible to permabrick a console this way.

Rom loading from ini file is not working on R4i-sdhc. Have checked that my paths are correct but still nothing. Im using the latest version of TWLoader too. Also the flashcard packs linked in the original post do not work with the R4i-sdhc. I copied all the files to my micro sd and when I tried to run my DS flashcard I got a "? Menu" error message. Did a little research and it turns out that the R4.dat file for that flash card will not allow YSmenu to autoboot so I downloaded another DAT file from here https://gbatemp.net/threads/r4sdhc-dual-core-firmware.421665/#post-6229829 copied to my card. Now my flashcard auto boots YSmenu but still cannot autoload roms from ini in TWLoader. Any advice?

Amazing work Robz8! Any chance you could make a app (like the NDS Forwarder app) that reads the roms and creates the ini file needed and also extracts the icons or downloads box art for the games as well?

Thanks

Yes, it's safe. I left my system on overnight, and no bricks have happened.

Is TTfwd.dat in the flashcard root?

These are the files from the pack linked in the OP. As I already stated the R4.DAT with this pack does not work only displays a ? menu error so I replaced with the R4.dat I mentioned earlier and it worked booting to YSMenu but does not work autobooting any DS Rom from ini on TWLoader. In answer to your question TTfwd.dat is not in the flashcard root. If it is needed; whny wasn't it included in the pack? Am trying to copy it now.

Wait, what pack are you using?

R4i-SDHC v1.4.x folder from this pack:-
DS Game Forwarder pack (Acekard 2(i), M3DS Real, R4i-SDHC v1.4.x)

I've also tried R4i-SDHC folder from this pack but seeing as there is no R4.dat file in them they refuse to boot on my device:-
DS Game Forwarder pack (DSTT, R4i Gold, R4i-SDHC, SC DSONE)
