I have already read that repacking modded games with either nuspacker or WiiUInstallerPacker just don't work, but my question is why exactly it doesn't work?
Is it related to the cert, tmd or tik files? or is it related to the way the wiiu handles the game installation?

I would like to get a more deep understanding of why the repacking and installation of modded games isn't working right now and maybe try to find a way to make it work. So, if possible I want this thread to stay focused on the tools for repacking/installing and what is missing/failing right now instead of just comments like "install the original game and then use wupserver to copy the modified files".

Thanks for your time.

The problem with repacking modified games is that you cannot properly resign them, since we don't and we will never (apart from leaks) have the private key Nintendo is using to sign the titles. Without a properly signed package wupinstaller will refuse to install the game. By the way, if you use sigpatches via iosuhax you should be able to repack whatever you want and use a fake ticket and install the package with wupinstaller.
However, also executing the modified game will require iosuhax to be run first.

Could you please provide any hints on how to do that??

I'm trying to install them using iosuhax but the games still fail to install with wupinstaller, but if I install the "clean" version and then use wupserver to copy the modified files the games load just fine, that's why I don't understand why wupinstaller just don't want to install them (already using iosuhax before running wupinstaller).

Yes, I can repack other not modified games and they install just fine. I have also tried with WiiUInstallerPacker which doesn't ask for common key and the modified games still don't work.
I think that's because you already installed the original game on your console, and the original ticket is still installed. So, it is not possible to install another title with the same id of the original one. I don't exactly know if it is sufficient to remove the original ticket from the console in order to get the modified game installed.

Have you already tested any of that? because I first tried installing the modded games and then with the original files. I have tested this with 3 games (first trying the modded version) so I doubt it is because I have installed the original game. And for standard games I can uninstall any game and then reintall it from wupinstaler witout any error.

im pretty sure you need to swap the code folder from the original files to the modded file
to get the original code folder you can download it by jnus i believe
jnus can download individual files from nintendo servers

so
i think it was the xml rpx files that needed to be swapt
you may need to read the whole nuspacking thread to find out
but its some sort of those files

the reason for this is because most modded games come from a loadiine base that was dumped by an iso team software, and it is not legit

Yeah, I also thought about that so I downloaded the "clean" game from NUS (so the code folder is complete) and then applied the patch (the patch only modifies the content folder) but Wupinstaller keeps showing and error without even starting to install. (Tested for xenobblade undub and Tokyo Mirage undub). But if I try to install the clean game it installs just fine.

Would be keen to know if anyone finds a solution for this. Came across this problem as well when trying to repack undubbed Xenoblade.

can u try it again with a smaller game?
nuspacker is indeed restricted to files over 2gb...
if any errors u may start testing by swapping modded file by file to see which one is causing any breaking

It was fixed with one of the last releases

Version 0.2!
- fix support for files >2GB (stupid java for not having unsigned ints)
[...]
Last but not least:
- splitting up the content file if its getting bigger then ~3GB. Limit can be increased but gives not advantages. Single files bigger than 3gb will still be packed.

Source: https://bitbucket.org/timogus/nuspacker/
[...]
This should finally pack all kind of things. Tested it with SSBU (13GB, with 2 really big (3.9gb) files) and Xenoblade (19gb, with 20k files). Both packed and installed+booted fine.[/QUOTE

In fact I tested some really big games, all worked so far. Make sure that your code folder is fine (dumped from disc or nus, NOT ddd) and your meta folder is valid.

It would be a awesome if there's a way to mod Fatal Frame V or Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE or maybe repacking those games but uncensored/ENG.

You can always install it unmodded and then apply the mods using wupserver/wupclient index the content folder afterwards

After a lot of repacking I managed to make an installable Tokyo Mirage with restoration patch using latest NUSPacker and latest fw.img (dimok's branch), but there are some games that still don't work like Xenoblade. I'm also thinking that NUSPacker might have some fail % because I had to repack like 5 times tokyo mirage in order for it to be acceptable by wupinstaller.

And as a side note I had to use the tik file generated by nuspacker. If I used the tik file from that iso site the installation failed for some reason, so I have to run iosuhax to play the modded version. The clean version of tokyo mirage installs just fine with the tik file from that iso site.

You can always install it unmodded and then apply the mods using wupserver/wupclient index the content folder afterwards

I clearly said in my first post that this thread is not about "just copy the modded files with wupserver" because that method is just not efficient with large files.

It worked?! Great!!
Could you please upload the game or show us how to do it?

Could you do the same with Fatal Frame V? I mean replacing the Zelda/ZSS for the original costumes.

I don't think he can upload the game. I would like a step by step of how you did it (idiots guide!)

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.
