you can always take a look at the steps (most importantly Part 2 - 2.1.0 ctrtransfer)

or technical details: https://www.reddit.com/r/3dshacks/comments/4zhe4a/

it involves a pre-build 2.1 CTRNAND image, which is used with Decrypt9 to downgrade sysnand directly to 2.1 safely. it's almost impossible for something to go wrong in most cases.
And also KOR/TWN/CHN A9LH because it builds in region changing.
But KOR/TWN/CHN is still limited to SysNAND 9.2- because downgrade is not supported.

is it the official nintendo function in the last point FINALIZATION:
"Update your CFW SysNAND to the latest version using system settings"
or in system settings of a tool?

Just tested this new guide. It still took about an hour (about 1 hour 10 minutes if I include setting up additional homebrew like freeShop and CHMM2). But that's still bounds and leaps faster than the old guide which somtimes took upwards of 5+ hours if I ran into any issues (like once formatting emuNAND the first time with TinyFormat somehow bricked emuNAND). Not only is it faster, it's also much more simple.
This time was the first time I had safeA9LHinstaller show a glitched bottom screen and keep the browser top screen. I pushed select, but it didn't restart automatically like the guide said. So I just gave it a minute and then hard reset and A9LH was installed.
I said it before and I'll say it again, at this point there is no reason to not install A9LH. The hardest part is honestly getting to 9.2 if you are on a higher firmware. If you are already on a compatible firmware this new process is extremely easy.
Also based on my very limited knowledge, this is also opening the ability to transfer at least part of the NAND of one system to another (and from what I can tell it's a pretty substantial portion of it)

So the process is now shorter? Neat, I might actually give this whole thing a try then.. when I'm not being a lazy bastard, that is

I've already got a Menuhax setup where I can boot to Luma. Would I start from the "Section III - Launching Decrypt9" part though? I mean, considering my N3DS sysNand is already 9.2 and all.

Make sure you can access the latest Decrypt9 from homebrew then start Part 2.

Ok, I am backing up EmuNAND now. Do I still need to move it over to my sysnand if I still want to use SC DSTwo and Gateway?

I am ready for step 6 of move rednand/emunand guide...

Side question: Will I still be able to use my Pokemon X/Y/OR saves in Gateway mode in a9lh?

Moving emunand to sysnand is optional, but recommended.

And yes your saves will work.

Sure will, but first I'll make sure I've got all the needed files so I won't have to worry about downloading them later (qBittorrent is up and seeding the files btw ;) )

Let's see.. 2.1.0-4U_ctrtransfer_o3ds.zip (doesn't matter if I've got New instead of Old?), aeskeydb, data_input_v2, decrypt9WIP, DspDump, FBI (3dsx and cia), hblauncher_loader_v1.2, hourglass9-20160823, Luma3DSv6.1, lumaupdater-1.4.1, noscreeninit, safea9lhinstallerv2.0.3.7, starter.zip, universal-injector-generator-master. Holy wow, that's a long list of stuff to get! Sure hope I ain't missing something
