Actually soundfonts need less CPU time then what we currently use. FmMidi (what we currently use) is a Midi synthesizer, it generates the sounds on the fly which is slow but fast enough for any modern CPU (all except 3DS) and is very small compared to soundfonts (300 kbyte).
Though there are currently no plans to support fluidsynth because it has awful library dependencies and is hard to compile. We will probably ship WildMidi in a few weeks/months at least for the 3DS. It uses "GUS patches", so not soundfonts and is quite CPU friendly but needs around ~15 MB of extra files that you place somewhere.
And for our most active Vita-Player users I have a new test again... When this works the PS Vita port is perfect

Please run the se-crash game with the linked VPK and talk with all actors from left to right and tell me if it crashes. If it doesn't crash anywhere and only spams warnings it is fine.
