Clean install is the best for any OS in my experience.
Few months before i upgraded to win 10,I got many issues such as Start not working,Cortana,Boot problems etc... So one day i became too tired of it and i backup my all files to one drive. And i made a clean install of windows 10.Now my computer is fast than before.

Feel free to keep discussing good fast linuxes amongst each other, I just don't need to find one anymore.

Something like puppy linux is great because it loads itself entirely into RAM. I wasn't too experienced when I first tried it out a billion years ago, though, and I didn't find it particularly user friendly at the time. Heard good things about crunchbang as a lightweight distro, though I don't know how it compares.

Of course there's always the "hardcore" solution of setting up a Gentoo machine and you can make it as lightweight as your heart desires.
