which version of Luma3DS did you install? (Normal or the *-dev version)
what is your entrypoint? (Cubic Ninja, Menuhax......)

Okay a first typ would be to DL another (older) version of Luma3ds frome here: https://github.com/AuroraWright/Luma3DS/releases
IMHO i would use the 5.2 version (this was the first Luma release).
DL that and copy the named files in Plailects guide to the root of your SD card (overwrite the existing one!)
Put the SD card back and boot your 3DS.
Get into the menuhax and start Luma........?!?!?
(Let us know what happened) ;)

P.S. sometimes it needs 3 or 4 tries before it boots correctly!

Did you trie it more than one time?
Do you have and OLD or NEW 3DS?
Did you have a Gateway card and played til now with the NAND made by Gateway?
Did you do Part 1 and Part 2 from Plailect's guide?
Sorry some questions to make the solution finding faster :)
Please let us know.

BTW i changed my second poste because i made a mistake! Did you read that again?

Wow now emunand 9 is Gavin the same issue
Can you try holding Select as you boot up Luma3DS? Also, can you try more than one time?

If neither of those do anything, can you try holding your menuhax trigger button shortly after launching Luma3DS?

Nothing happens just a black screen with both emunand and luma3ds.
Maybe your memory card is corrupted or bad. Did you buy it from a reputable seller? eBay sellers and 3rd party Amazon sellers often sell fake/counterfeit cards that are either bad quality knockoffs, original cards that failed QC and were supposed to be thrown but were sold anyway, or simply cards with a fake capacity that will start corrupting data once you put more files on than the actual capacity can hold. China/HK based sites such as flashcart sellers also do this frequently.

I'm having a similar issue. I have followed the guide and managed to get into the RedNAND the first time, but now that I updated it, I get a black screen.
O3DS running v9.0.0-20U using menuhax and all the updated files told in the guide
Going to try and restore RedNAND by cloning my SysNAND over to it since SysNAND is still working fine

EDIT: So the clone got RedNAND booting again. Went to the System Settings Emu 9.0.0-20U; all good. System Update > An Error Has Occurred. System reboots. Replaced with Luma Version 5.2 as recommended in one of the comments. It managed to boot up again, but still refuses to update. "An error has occurred. Unable to update. The system will now be restarted."

EDIT2: I'm an idiot, because I have been blocking Updates from Nintendo because I have a WiiU I don't want updated, it wouldn't update my 3DS. Ignore my dumbness

You are not "dumb"!
You made a mistake in the first time you installed A9LH ....... that's all :)
I could tell you stories like that from my experience with HW and SW ;)

your sysnand may be corrpt like mine was. try to boot decrypt 9 by pressing start while powering on the system, or when you boot the system, hold the R button while turning on. this boots to emunand.

Should I restore sysnand by using the plaisupdater and selecting downgrade?
No you should restore your sysnand from EmuNAND9 or Decrypt9WIP, I would doublecheck with someone else first but that's what I did I believe
Going to be working on my 2nd o3DS soon to try and downgrade from 10.7.0-32U to 9.2.0-20 and get the homebrew launcher going

  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
never had that i don't think
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)

when SD cards/microSD write speeds drop below a meg a sec, they're usually on the verge of dying

yes looks like an faulty sd

@Psionic Roshambo i may try that with my dead sd cards
