Oddly enough, if you just want to launch CFW, 1.1b is better because of its 100% boot rate.
It can vary between 60% and 90% depending on your system, sd card, and firmware (and no telling what else). Obviously, give menuhax a try and see if you like it. No question it's faster than ninjhax.
Pretty much 100% on the two consoles I've set up with ctrbootmanager.
Menuhax works very well, I just used ninjhax 2.5 to install Menuhax and from there reiNand; works with no problem on N3DS.

I have nearly 100% bootrate with the current version of homebrew. The only time I crash is if emunand crashes or something hardlocks, in which case I have to hold power.. then when I start up i'll always get stuck on a yellow/black screen, just reboot and it works.
