Sorry I couldn't help more! I'm really curious how to approach that, because 100+ attempts sounds crazy! Regardless, congratulations on the downgrade!

Alright, so I took the plunge! I updated my Japanse n3ds to 10.3...gonna try this downgrade. Here's the thing though, I downloaded the update files from the iso site (9.2.0-20J(Full).zip)
and in the zip file there is no 000400102002CA00.cia file to delete! The zip file was about 115mb. Did I grab the wrong firmware file?

make sure it says n3ds on the rar file, as you don't want the standard 3ds files. The extracted cia's total you want is 100 files after deleting the 000400102002CA00.cia

Holy crap! Thank you for saying that! I didn't know they were different files! Now I'm worried about my chances....ㅠㅠ

For reference, the file I used was called "9.2.0-20J(Full)_n3DS.zip". Find this, delete 000400102002CA00.cia from it, and put the update folder on your SD root. That's exactly how I did it.

All right!! Sucessfully downgraded to 9.1j!! My first try too! Though, I used the 9.2.0-20j(Full)_n3DS file recommended, it installed 9.1?? Anyway, I'm so happy!! Thank you all for your help!
Yeah, both the 9.0/9.2 N3DS packs on the iso site are 9.1J for some reason. Either the pack is mis-labeled or there's some kind of file-reading conflict from the way the downgrade works. (Especially suspicious about that cia you're supposed to delete: It's a news applet related to an "are you on a lower firmware" check or whatever)

OK. So before going to bed, a quick question if you all don't mind. Now that I've downgraded, I assume I need to reformat my microsd and redo all the homebrew browserhax to menuhax setup since the current setup was for firmware 10.3? Is this correct?

Yes. Once you get menuhax up you can try preparing for CFW.

By the way, you can make FBI injection a lot easier if you just menuhax into rxtools 3dsx version, pasta mode (Hold L when it boots up, it can crash a lot btw), menuhax again, run FBI (official build, not the custom one) and install FBI.cia/DevMenu.cia. I think this should be done after you format emunand+unlink your nands though

I think it'd be wise to find out why we ended up on 9.1 instead of 9.2 and what's the deal with 000400102002CA00 otherwise it's gonna bite us in the ass sooner or later.
I already had an 9.5 emunand I made when I was on 8.1, and that still works just fine on 9.1, but apparently trying to make an emunand out of our "hybrid" 9.1 sysnand fails.
retrofan, were you able to learn more about 000400102002CA00 and make a proper 9.5 emunand based on 9.1J?

Rumor is that the 9.0/9.2 rars from the that iso site and link I have to them all, are actually 9.1, yet no solid proof on that yet. Not leared more about the CA00 CIA, other than the version of JPN-region New3DS application title 000400102002CA00 listed in SOAP was changed to v0, originally this title was added under SOAP with the Oct 2 JPN-only "update" as v1.

Note that this title wasn't actually changed, the TMD is identical besides the title-version. Both versions of this title already existed. Source from here

The issue with emunand having the 0004003000009502.cia failing to install, I have no idea why at present but I have other ways of trying it differently. However, I actually removed it and installed all rest of the 9.5 firmware CIA's and the console now reports 9.5 in the system settings and appears to function okay so far.

0004003000009502.cia is Amibo settings (http://yls8.mtheall.com/ninupdates/titlelist.php?date=12-08-14_07-15-03&sys=ktr&reg=J), which I'm not bothered about, yet like you say I don't want this to bite me in the ass later down the line. The downgrader works but it's not perfect and things don't seem to fit together as they should. Time will tell....

Whenever I try to start up browserhax after updating my 3ds, it boots me to the home screen and tells me to turn of my 3ds

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM

  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds

It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
