Hacking New PSP3000 came pre-modded, have questions.

I just bought a PSP 3000 (9g version) today and it came with firmware 6.35 PRO-B10 already installed on it, meaning it's a temporary mod that I have to run the "635 PRO-B Fast Recovery" whenever I shut the system down (I just sleep it).

Anyway, it runs great but I can't sign up for the Playstation Network/go online with games because my firmware is too low. My questions are:

• What are my options for updating the system or CFW?
• Should I install a different CFW?
• Can the 635 Pro-B10 CFW be "updated" to the latest version so I can go online?

There I think is some CFW for 6.61, but pre-6.61 can no longer access PSN. Honestly, it isn't worth trying to take advantage of online on the PSP since so few games have active online communities anymore, and PSN is basically worthless if you have a modded machine. Pretty much nobody recommends actually updating to 6.61, although downgrading from 6.61 is super simple.

Basically, I'd recommend sticking to 6.60 PRO-C2 (which I believe is the last PRO release). You'll still be dealing with the CFW the same way, although if you plan on actively using your PSP, you should just use the sleep mode for the system instead. Unlike with Nintendo systems, Sony got sleep mode right with their handhelds and it works really well as long as you don't intend on leaving the system in sleep for a week+ at a time. Using sleep mode will save you those few seconds of restarting the CFW from a complete shutdown.

You can basically install the official 6.61 update, after that flash the PSP 6.61 PRO-C2 custom firmware.

I think three games which require newer system software than what your currently on. You might still be able to use the PSN on 6.61, I think I could the last time i used my PSP.

There's no reason not to keep it in sleep mode. I've been doing it for years.

only time it ever gets shut down is when it freezes up (usually from using cheats).
