They hack because They can and They want to.

They are not obliged to give things for free.

Just like how apple doesn't give away iPhones Because they can make it.

No doubt, I'm a fan of piracy, for whatever immoral reasons.

But people are not obliged to do anything for another.

We ought to stop deluding ourselves with neither self-righteousness nor sense of entitlement.

I wonder how many not dev type people would frequent these forums if backup loading weren't a thing. I bet I could count them on my fingers...

Can you explain why? Or is this just another one of your famous, baseless assumptions that you like to make so much?

Gee, I don't know, maybe the fact that there isn't any interest in hacking, or maybe the fact that those who do have interest have their reasons for not sharing? To me, that's a detriment. Must you ask me that? I hate the fact that there aren't as many people interested, it's sad, really.

People who don't release their code aren't "killing the scene". They're not giving anything to the scene, but they're also not taking anything away. That alone has absolutely no affect on the scene. The only time it DOES have an affect of any kind is when they announce that they're not releasing their code, and that can go either way depending on how people respond: either by denouncing the scene entirely (a selfish response that comes from people who wouldn't have contributed anything anyway) or by doing what they can to recreate the tools that aren't being released.

Without looking up any statistics, I am fairly confident that no scene has been killed solely by people not releasing their personal code.

Didn't bother reading the last 3 or so pages but just to chip my 2 cents in I'd say they're reluctant to allow piracy for several possible reasons

1) And perhaps the most obvious one I'd say is not wanting to get in trouble with a big company like Nintendo

2) Not having Nintendo go haywire to patch the exploit (tho even if it doesn't play ROMs they're still gonna patch it lbr)

3) Personally being against widespread software piracy

If I can raise the funds to decap the 3DS, I'd do it in a heartbeat, and post the documentation on as many sites as I could. Pirate Bay, Kickass Torrents, my personal MediaFire, my Dropbox, my Google Drive, github, and any other publicly available link I could upload to.

WHY? To help us (The 3DS users and developers) better understand the system inside and out. I don't give two shits for credit. I just want that sucker documented once and for all, so we can eventually load roms, .CIAs, etc... from the internal SD card, without the need for an expensive flash cart or any additional hardware of any kind. I'm in this to open the hardware platform for anything, be it piracy, homebrew, or whatever.
