No you don't. You can remove the red card as soon as you're booted into Gateway mode and still be able to load CIAs and such just fine (until the next hard system reboot/power off/power on).

I don't know if that was true at one time or not but with the current 3.x launcher you do not need the GW card slotted after booting into gateway mode. At that point you can only run cia files. I can 100% confirm this.

I just swapped the SD cards and I'm still getting 'SD fail' when I run the diagnostic. Can anyone help?

Starting to sound like a hardware failure if multiple Sd cards will not run.

I can't understand why it suddenly stopped reading. Before I updated yesterday, it was working fine!

I can't return the card for a replacement because I bought it mid-December, so it's past the 30 day replacement

I tried reading more of the forum to see if there were any other methods to try but I can't seem to find anything on it.

Woah! It started working again all of a sudden! I pressed the mSD card down while it was in the GW card before the diagnostic and it worked

So I backed up my NAND to my computer then formatted EMUNAND. How do I restore my old NAND so I have my old themes, game saves, etc

EDIT: I also updated my EMUNAND to 9.4

EDIT2: Have I messed up? I feel like I've messed up :/

If I never go online with any games using sky3ds, am I in the clear as far as possible banning goes? I'd hate to have my retail Pokemon and Smash games be unable to go online due to a ban...

I won't guarantee anything but the problem is online. So you if you are not doing multiplayer and connecting to Nintendo servers I wouldnt loose any sleep over it. Last I checked a few hours ago everyone is still trying to figure out what is going on if anything. These things take time.

If you do not have a game running or suspended running from the gate way you can remove the gateway anytime. Do not remove the SD card while powered up and in emunand, it would be like yanking your c:\ drive from windoz. Not pretty.

That really sounds like a contact issue. Something is not seated right.

So let me get this straight. You backed up sysnand from the gateway menu and copied the nand.bin to your computer. Then on the gateway menu you formatted emunand which completely wipes your SD card. You had made a backup of all the contents of your SD CARD before you formatted emunand, correct? If not then your options are to use a recovery tool like Search and Rescue to restore your data or redownload your themes, game saves would be gone.

When did you update emunand to 9.4? Today? Not possible. The only option right now is 9.5 there are no retail carts with any 9.x on them.

I am confused in the people talk about dev menu.......but then install the bigblue 3ds/cia.

I don't do CFW, i like my system to boot more than once every ten tries. Dev menu and BBM do the same thing, try them out. I Use BBM and do t think about it, it just installs cia, not worth thinking about.

So I've downgraded my firmware to 4.2 and I've installed the ds profile gateway boot up. I then attempted to update my firmware by holding R and I waited until I was done updating,yet when I enter gateway mode it reads GW3D 4.2. Anyone have any ideas of what could be wrong? I double checked my and it is the most recent file. My diagnostic test is perfect

What firmware were you trying to update by holding R, sysnand or emunand? If your sysnand is 4.4 emunand will be 4.2 when you create it. You uodate emunand with a retail cart or through system settings. Updating any FW through the GW menu is not supported, it is for downgrade only. You can try it at your own risk.

1. It's not going to blow up on you like windows would but it just makes things more complex and dangerous. Some people have some reasons they want to keep them linked but that is sort of a advanced setup and not using gateway as intended. It doesn't corrupt your NNID on emunand. See.6.
2. Keep an eye on the banning thread, it is a fluid situation and no one is sure yet what is going on.

5. No reports of that ever happening and I am not sure how Nintendo would know if you are not online with the game.
6. Yes. Just make sure your NNID is set up on sysnand before you create emunand. Formatting sysnand will wipe it out on sysnand but leave emunand fine. Keep backups of sysnand and emunand. Use the emunand tool. Frequent backups eliminate a lot of "oh shit! I fucked up, now what do I do?"

Having another SD card with a clean up to date emunand is helpful for using on eshop to get stuff. eshop will delete any DLC it sees that you don't own.

Question about NNID and pre-installed/eshop games.

Recently I bought a 3DS XL (now FW 9.2) with Super Mario 3D Land pre-installed. Through a friend I also managed to get a code to download Zelda: LBW for free, which I downloaded from the eshop.

Right now, my Gateway card is being shipped and I expect it to arrive next week. My plan is to downgrade my sysnand so I don't have to use the internet exploit all te time. My question is, what will this do to the pre-installed games, and also their saves?

For as far as I know, I have no NNID yet so I'm not sure if I can still make one now without connecting my 3DS to the internet (though I think probably not...). As I've understood you need an NNID to download your digitally owned games again if necessary, right? Just in case downgrading wipes them off the system.

Question, with the 3ds rom carts, specifically the gateway 3ds (looks like the best option IMO, let me know if I am wrong), can I play ds games as well as 3ds games?

Edit: Sorry, another question, I see a lot of talk about downgrading with the gateway, do I have to downgrade? (I will be buying a new 3ds xl so I would like to know if I have to downgrade, if I do I will just buy the correct firmware 3ds xl off ebay)
