I'm trying to import a custom boss but am stuck with trying to get the model extracted and converted properly from SMS. Is there anyone with experience of 3D Studio Max (version 6) who would be willing to help me get a model exported in a certain format? I've been able to import models from SMS using MaxBMD and have the Nitro SDK plugins for exporting, however the MaxBMD plugin creates a "character" which, when exported with the Nitro SDK plugins is treated as one bone (the same also happens with the OpenCOLLADA exporter) - is it possible to convert this "character" into a skeleton that can be exported as separate bones? I've tried exporting to 3DS and importing again which does give me individual bones - however they're no longer attached to the mesh.

Import it as .x export model, then export it as an FBX and re-import it, thats what works for me when importing BMDs for the source engine

There hasn't been much progress in this hack recently but I now have NITRO IMD and ICA importing added to the editor; using MaxBMD and the leaked SDK 3D plugins (still need to fix editor to handle DAE models with Z-Up) I am now able to import animated models from Mario Sunshine:

Now this is just absurd. I don't think any of us were expecting this level of detail in the hack. Most of us were hyped just to have Pianta Village as a stage, but now you've basically turned the game into SMS minus FLUDD!

It's amazing just how much SM64DS is being hacked these days. If my DS SD card was a 2 GB instead of a 16 GB, I'd check this out when it was done.
A 64GB microsd was on sale for $24 USD the other day. 32GB for about half that at another site. Just keep your eyes open :)

unless for some reason cards above 2GB aren't working for you?

I have never heard this, and I don't see a technical reason why this would be true.
At any rate, I'm pretty sure I remember the Pianta Village alpha working just fine on my 8GB mSD in my AK2i.
It appears to be an issue on DSTwo carts; apparently you have to run it in clean mode for it to work though it seems to load slowly for some people. It should still run though on any size of micro SD/SDHC card.

Other carts don't have any issue. I can confirm it working on 32GB cards on AK2i and R4i.

I've finished porting/adapting the Sand Bird from Gelato Beach:



ASM hacking was done using NSMBe and the SM64DS ASM Hacking Template, based upon Dirbaio's NSMB ASM Hacking Template which allows you to write your "ASM" hacks in C/C++ and insert them into the game easily.

I've also fixed most of the problems with Petey Piranha:
- Removed shadow
- Removed footstep dust clouds
- Removed footstep sound effects
- Changed effect displayed when ground-pounding and defeating him to a more suitable one
- Increased chase distance and speed
- No longer pauses every few steps when chasing the player
