Welcome to the Noob Paradise!

Please keep all noob questions in this topic. Thanks!

Some useful links:
* http://gbatemp.net/t171901-modify-any-wii-4-3-below
* http://gbatemp.net/t207126-modmii-for-windows
* http://sites.google.com/site/completesg/

Read those before modding!

Im getting "protection not found" when trying to patch a file on Generic Wii patcher. I did this after getting the infamous Error 001 when trying to play Just Dance 2015 on NeoGamma. I already did the WiiScrubber steps, need help with this please...

I'm not entirely sure if this is the right section but I might as well give it a shot.

I've been browsing all over for quite some time now and have found a few people claiming some sort of library that allows you to use the Wii U Pro Controller with stuff such as WiiSX and Wii64. My issue is my searches usually end up resulting in tons of broken links. When I do get a hold of something that looks promising I am given little to no direction. Responses in the topic are pretty much assuming I am some sort of veteran at this. "Put it in the usual place." does not help me. :V

Would be nice if someone could push me in the right direction and send me a direct download link to said library as well as a path to where I'm supposed to put it.

EDIT: I should also mention I am running this on the Wii U using the vWii.

Hi, I have one question regarding modding my White Wii console: After modding, is it still able to play games from discs, just like non-modded console?

Is there any way to slow down USB loading to disk loading speeds? I'm interested in speed running and I'm looking to get near official disk read speeds.

So, it seems that I either didn't install Bootmii as boot2 or it failed. Whenever I try to launch Bootmii through Homebrew, it just takes me to Multi-Mod Manager. I've started to feel the need to do some heavy modification of my Wii and as such want to make sure I can fix it if something was to happen. If I head to my SD Card I can find boot.elf and .dol as well as the bootmii folder. I've also heard that it's incredibly difficult to make it boot2 if you have a Wii from AFTER 2008, problem is that I honestly don't remember when I got mine, is there anyway to find out within the Wii?
Anyways, what I'm trying to ask is how I can install Bootmii again. Should I just relaunch Letterbomb or should I install it through Hackmii, or is there an entirely different method?

Another question I have is that, if I can't make Bootmii launch before the Wii OS itself, can I make it so that Priiloader does that instead? Another question within that is that Priiloader can't find my Homebrew channel, basically still making it impossible for me to try and "fix" my Wii if it was to brick and I only have Priiloader.

I'm aware, lots of questions, but I'm just really eager to fix all this so I can really get into the hacking n' all :P.

You don't launch BootMii/boot2 from the HBC. You're supposed to turn your Wii on with your SD card in it.

Also, why the hell did you put a boot.elf and boot.dol file in the BootMii folder? The only things that should be in your BootMii folder is armboot.bin, ppcboot.bin, and bootmii.ini.

Also, if you had a Wii after 2008, you wouldn't even be able to install BootMii/boot2.

If you want, you can run Letterbomb again. There is a way to have the HackMii Installer on the Homebrew Channel, which I'll explain right now:

First of all, make a folder called HackMii_Installer in your apps folder.
Download the HackMii Installer from the official BootMii website and copy everything from the zip file into the HackMii_Installer folder (boot.elf, bootmini.elf, etc).
Add an icon.png and meta.xml to your HackMii_Installer folder if you want.

About the Priiloader thing, you need to go to Launch Title and go to the Homebrew Channel (LULZ) from there.

What's up with the hostility? You obviously didn't understand my questions, and the insulting and making fun of is not really all that welcoming.

I have my SD Card in the Wii at all times, and still it doesn't launch BootMii, it goes straight to the system menu, and no, you can launch BootMii from Homebrew channel if you weren't aware already.

I DON'T have my boot.elf nor boot.dol in the BootMii folder, I have it in the root, jesus christ why do you have to say "Why the hell", that seems highly unnecesary and is just a massive asshole thing to say, especially when this is a noob thread and some might not know that, in which I do still.

I even stated that very thing myself, no need to repeat the whole 2008 thing. My question about that was if there was any way to find out if I have a post or pre 2008 Wii or if I just have to test installing BootMii into boot2.

And the Priiloader thing, I mean, seriously, you were just giving me a tutorial on how to launch it, not how to make it be a priority one on the launch or anything, neither on why it can't locate Homebrew Channel.

Still though, I appreciate the HackMii tutorial and I'll do so now.

Now, just, no more hostility please. I came here asking for help, not to be made fun of because of it. It really doesn't feel to well, obviously.

Hi HSPLazerz,

I've also heard that it's incredibly difficult to make it boot2 if you have a Wii from AFTER 2008

You can't 'make' it, it either has the vulnerable boot or has it patched

.....any way to find out if I have a post or pre 2008 Wii or if I just have to test installing BootMii into boot2.

Yes to the above, even the date thing isn't absolute, only way to find out for sure is to run the installer and see what it spits back - you can choose to proceed or not with no harm done to your wii

Anyways, what I'm trying to ask is how I can install Bootmii again. Should I just relaunch Letterbomb or should I install it through Hackmii

Yes, run Hackmii installer via your homebrew channel :)

Oh, that was just a poor choosing of words, I pretty much meant just that :P.

Anyways, I really appreciate the help, I'll make sure to try it first thing in the morning :).

Im not new to the scene but i am new to soft modding japan wii. I just purchased it and waiting for it to arrive but was wondering whats the run down for japan systems.

Can they be soft modded? If so which fw is best to do it with?

Which soft mod method works best?

Will soft modding it work like my pal wii or are there any issues after a soft mod regarding games n such?

I dont plan on getting onto the wii shop or anything but i did possibly want to install netflix from a different region. I just want to be able to read what i see, play my backups (wii/gc) and homebrew off a usb hd & possiblyuse netflix.

Btw the wii in question is the 25th anniversary edition red mario one. If anyone can help answer these questions ill really appreciate it.

Greetings forum. It's a pleasure to return to you again. Unfortunately I have brought my share of problems with my return. They're very nooby in nature, and should be a cinch to the right forum veteran.

1.) How does one reset their softmodded Wii? I have an uneasy feeling that I made a mistake with my mod, and thus I'd like to run the process again.

2.) Does anybody, by the love of all things holy, know where I can attain an already patched version of Fatal Frame V: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse? I had a working version of a torrent for this game years ago, but sadly it was lost in the cracks over the years. Since then it has been exceedingly difficult to find a working, nonmalignant copy of the game online. Any suggestions as to where I could find one would be very appreciated. This game has tremendous value to me!

Thank you very much for your time!

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to link to torrent sites, but to hell with it:
*DELETED, NOT ALLOWED TO POST ;_;*
See if that one works, I did quite the extensive searching and couldn't find anything more at the moment, I'm afraid.

As for the reset, I found this to: "It is entirely possible to remove ALL traces of homebrew. It requires that you use giantpunes ohneswartzenegger (sp?) app to make a clean nand, then if you have bootmii as boot2 you must uninstall it, and then using bootmii as an IOS you can "restore" the nand dump made by giantpunes tool. Then absolutely every last trace of homebrew is gone. But it is risky because if the wii locks up while restoring that nand image then you can be stuck with a full brick. I've done this multiple times without a single problem."
Here's the application he mentioned: http://wiisixtyfour.webs.com/apps/blog/show/6995299-giantpune-s-wii-nand-tools

Again, this was all found through searching around the web rather than pure pre-existing knowledge, so I'd still recommend you to wait for someone who's, well, better than me at all this :P.

Thank you for your quick and extensive response! I'm a trifle leery about that particular torrent. I've seen and tried it before. The nasty bugger tried to give me malware with it's download link. The other link you provided seems promising. I'll give it a go immediately. Thanks again!

Hey, I'm glad to help! :).

Now as for the game, I'll continue searching for a bit, see if I can find anything that works and is patched.
