Question about game updates. Can I update a game through the eShop when I have the latest emunand installed and running (not emunand classic). If so are the game patches installed on the external or internal sdcard?

If your old 3DS is an Australian model, then yes. There are several accounts of people successfully transferring from SysNAND to EmuNAND, and vice versa. If it's not an Australian model, well, it's my understanding system transfer doesn't work cross-region. Actually, I'm not certain they both have to be Australian, but, if you can't at least pick the same country on both, you can forget about it.

However, you're talking about saves. System transfer is more about purchase info, NNIDs, and Miis. I think saves are only tied to your profile for genuine e-shop purchases, not ROMs and CIAs (well, ROMs converted to CIAs still save to the root, haven't tried any e-shop exclusives yet, mainly because e-ware in general always comes across as, well, leftovers -- if they didn't think it was good enough to cut it in the real market, there's probably a good reason).

Of course, for any game that uses firmware 6.x or higher that you've been playing on a 4.x system, the save is not properly encrypted, so, those will appear corrupt. Unfortunately, even a system transfer isn't going to fix them. Gateway's looking into creating a save tool I think, but it's hard to say when they'll be able to get to it. So, something like a Zelda: OoT save should copy just fine, but something like Zelda: ALBW probably won't. The only thing you can do is copy the .sav files from the root of the 3DS's SD card to your computer. Once the N3DS is exploited, copy them to it's MicroSD card. Then "see what sticks" as they say.
Well, the first 3DS is european (french), so anyway that "solve" the question. Thanks alot, now I just have to wait until GW team releases the new hack :) .

You don't even need to own the game to download the patches. yes you can download them. Not sure how they'll react to a .3dz file but I'm assuming it will be smooth

Guys I just joined, great forum going on and this is a great topic. I just got over the whole SKY3DS vs Gateway gig and forked over 70$ for the Gateway so I can be ready. I have a question on DLC. How does DLC work with Gateway? For instance I have Fire EMblem Awakening and I cannot download the DLC because the 3DS wants to shove the system update in order to do so, which I obviously wont do. Thanks in advance.

So you have two chioces. Either you install the .cia of the FE update, or purchase it from the eshop in emuNAND. EmuNAND will allow you to be on the latest version, and access the eshop.

You can look up tutorials on .cia file installation.

Hmm well i tried the instructions to update my emunand however when i tried to update it in gateway mode at first it seemed to be updating then an error occurred. Tried again and it wont even download. It gives me the "error has occurred." Cannot download update and system will reboot. I have a US 3ds xl with version 4.4.0-10U on it. Same version in gateway mode. Why isnt it updating for me? Any work around for this to update? Any help would be appreciated thank you

I have only used savedatafiler to extract from Gateway "inserted" carts. If it can mount to .CIAs stored to emuNAND--yes you should be able to

Most likely. They say they are releasing the exploit to all versions from 7.x to 9.2

Actually, they said they already had that on the 18th, and that lower versions were being added. Which implies they're going for an AIO with the new exploit for all firmwares that contain it (possibly even below 4.x, but at least including it). Makes sense. Everyone on the same version is easier to tech support. Never mind the fact that if no one needs the DS exploit anymore, they can discontinue the blue card (they've probably been wanting to do that all along -- no one likes additional production costs after all).

Sounds like the SD card got messed up. Connect the SD card to your PC. Back the SD card's folders up, then format it with something like the HP USB format utility. This will kill the old EmuNAND. Copy the Launcher.dat back to the root, pop it back into the 3DS, and redo the Format EmuNAND command in the Gateway Menu. Once that's done, take it back out of the 3DS, pop it back in the PC, copy your "Nintendo 3DS" and other folders back over to the card, and place it back into the 3DS. Now, go into Gateway mode, System, verify the "GW3D" in the version, and then go to update. Hopefully it will work this time.

Guess it's official, the exploit isn't coming before New Year's. Oh well, my Sky3DS did. I've been playing some Mario Kart 7 and Zelda: ALBW and the "Super Stable 3D" on the N3DS XL is definitely making a huge difference. The ghosting is gone, for the most part. SS3D could use a bit more vertical range, but the horizontal range is more than sufficient -- you'll probably never tilt the screen that far while actually playing a game. For whatever reason, Zelda has frozen up with a black screen a few times. Hard to say what could be causing it at this point. Well, looks I won't be handing the Sky to other people for multi-player for a while longer (that and running Cubic Ninja in SysNAND so there's no need to keep EmuNAND on 9.2 were my reasons for grabbing it). I still can't wait to see my Gateway running on this system, but for now, at least I've got more than the built-in apps to play with.

thanks, it finally updated albeit very slowly but I got everything to work. I have had the internal memory card (4gb) in the 3ds since I bought it. Is it ok to upgrade to a larger card even though I used the 4gb one to update emunand & have data/etc on it? If so, how big of a card can the 3ds accept/use internally? would micro sdhc adapters work or would it be safer to use regular sd size cards if I can upgrade the internal memory. thx
