Hey. Unfortunately, I have no useful skills to speak of, but I did sign up for the express purpose of showering you guys in praise and gratitude for your attempts at such a large undertaking. This game has to be the ONE PSP game I've held out hope would be officially translated someday, but that's rapidly falling by the wayside as of late.

So awesome job guys, and keep on doing your thing. I really hope this project is seen through to the end, and would be willing to donate to help make that a reality as it's really the only way I could contribute. Of course it's understandable if it doesn't get finished, but I hope it doesn't come to that. I'm a patient one :)

So whats the status of this project? Did it die already?

ヤダなぁ〜 そんな酷いこと言うな〜

って言うか、マジうざいよ。文句言える立場じゃないんだから黙ってろ。

Meaningless complaints aside, it's amazing just how much useless talk happens in the student council room. Rin used to be fat. Julius makes good black tea. And it'll be sunny tomorrow, according to Gawain.

Rin used to be fat? Now I have to play this translated!

Good luck with this, though I predict that they will make a compilation on Vita of both games and that would be Aksys' chance to finally release CCC in english.

Wow, thanks for the insider tip.

In that case, neo, I'd like to turn in my two weeks notice and I'd appreciate it if you pretend that you got it three weeks ago.

Just checking here, a project started in May of this year is supposed to be done in a couple of months? How about you stop by in a year or so and maybe it'll be done. Stop trying to see if it's done or getting an estimation. You'll get nothing of the sort and are wasting your time. Also, don't expect a release date, you're getting it for free; it'll be done when it's done, not a moment sooner.

For the last two days, I have been working on expanding the space available for the Equipment items.

I won't get into the technical details, but here is a simple explanation of how this specific file format works:

items_param_04.bin contains the text for the Equipment items in the game. It is one of a handful of files that use what I call the "Static" file format.

What this means is that each text string is given a hard coded amount of space (in bytes) to use. This is hard coded into the assembly.

If your text string is bigger than the available space, you have two options.
1) Shorten and/or abbreviate the text to take up less space.
or
2) Debug the game, find the opcodes that control how much space the file has for each text string, modify those opcodes so that the space available increases, and then enlarge the actual file by the exact amount.

I went with option #2.

It took me awhile, but now I have effectively doubled the amount of space for the text strings in item_param_04.bin

Check out this screenshot to see the difference in available space:
Left = Enlarged, Right = Original

Now, a nice screenshot showing the translation tool working on the file:

Here is a screenshot showing it working in the game:

Both the 'Items' menu and the 'Equip' menu used slightly different ASM opcodes to decide where each text string begins.

Please note, we actually have this entire file 100% translated in our spreadsheet. The screenshots are only meant to showcase the enlargement of the file.

All of the consumable items are located in a different file (item_param_01.bin) that uses the same file format, but different opcodes control the available space for text strings.

My hope is that I won't have to enlarge that file, it seems like the default space will be enough. But if needed, I'll do the same for that file, too. It's just a time consuming task.

So my earlier post right, the translating is somewhat easy and shouldn't take too long. The main problem is getting everything back into the game, which will take a long time sine you guys are really understaffed.

Ah, I think macaronron will disagree with you on the translation being easy... I'm not sure where you got that idea from. I'm going to assume that you have zero idea of what it takes to do a fan translation for a RPG, otherwise you'd be singing a different tune.

なら自分でやればいいじゃんw

Please save yourself the wait and translate for yourself then. I'm always glad to see people teaching themselves another language.

When I said easy, I didn't mean "so easy you can do it in one day" easy, just that compared to everything else you have to do it should be simple. I never once meant to insinuate that translating an RPG, especially one as wordy as this one, would be an easy thing to do. For example, I once had to translate a page of a book from Spanish to English. And even though both languages were similar it was pretty difficult. So to translate something as wordy as this from Japanese to English would be 10 times more difficult.

Good to see that the project is alive and going! Great job so far, really appreciate that you guys continue to tackle this huge project. If macaronron is the only translator I have to compliment him even more, don't even want to imagine the amount of text in the game xD

We're looking for a translation checker!
As I've mentioned before, macaronron is currently the only translator working on this project. We need someone with the following skills:
  • Must have a decent understanding of the Japanese language. No machine translations.
  • Must be able to write legible English. Editors will polish it, but your translations need to make sense.
  • Must have a decent amount of time to contribute. We all have real lives and you aren't expected to slave away on the project, but you need to be able to set aside some time for the project.
  • Must be a team player. You will be working with another translator. It's expected that both translators communicate regularly and work together, to ensure the best quality of work.
Please be aware ahead of time, this is a HUGE project. There is a lot of work to do. Only request to join the team if you understand this and do not mind.

Basically, we are looking for someone with a decent understanding of the Japanese language to read through all of the translations done by macaronron and check for any potential errors.

If no one joins up, this will mean that macaronron will have to not only translate all of it, but take double the time to go over all of the work and check for errors.

The translation checker will help lessen the burden and also speed up the project, because after the translations have been checked, we can have editors work their magic.

If you're interested in the position, please send me a PM.

After so much inactivity i had to ask, considering how many projects begin and die out of nowhere its not far fetched. Yeah im negative like that.

Im not specting it to be finished soon but it helps the wait when people at least stop to say hi.

Keep up the great work, guys. I don't know any Japanese past the kana so I can't offer help but I just wanted to say that I am looking forward to playing this translation. Judging by all the technical work and time being taken as well as the screenshots, it seems this translation is really great quality. I don't mind waiting so I look forward to enjoying the fruits of your labor. Sorry if that sounds selfish. :D

It seems this is my first actual post. Fitting, I say.
