Project cancelled, translation progress released for any wanting to start a project.

After much thought, I have decided to stop my project with this game. I have my own reasons, but the main reason is simply that this game needs a large amount of work on the assembly side of things and I do not have the skills or experience to do all of them. This isn't something that was decided on a whim, I have spent a good deal of thought on what I wanted to do.

I understand that there will be those that are disappointed. But please realize that being the person on the outside, watching from the crowd is simple compared to actually doing the project.

However, a great deal of progress has been made on the translation work for the game. As well as, I have all of the ASM hacks that I made recorded in a Google Sheets file.

If someone more skilled than me comes along, they will be able to use these as a base rather than starting from nothing.

I will not be releasing my tool for the project, for two reasons. 1) It's not 100% finished, some of the file formats gave me headaches and 2) If you can't program your own tool, you have no business starting a project for this game, as you won't be able to do all of the assembly work.

    ASM Hacks:
    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/14j1CdI97YZWLZN2jcLJG7v7DApZEkQ_uorefk-o8Atk/edit?usp=sharing

    Translations:
    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Y0DTsJrAuMyr_-f3kBtJO5y7zou8fD696_wjF9fX4ZU/edit?usp=sharing

Any from the public will be able to view these. You cannot edit or comment. If you are starting your own project, please copy it into a new sheet.

I do want to apologize to macaronron as they have done a huge amount of work on the translations. I'm hoping that by providing these as a base, any one picking up the project can make use of it. I know of at least one other rom hacker that expressed interest in this game and is qualified to handle the game.

    Update
Text dumping and re-insertion programming is pretty much done. I need to debug one of the item files a little more, to figure out how it's determining the text position. The preset space is too small for what the English will take up. But I can't really do this until I know when and where one of the text strings in the file appears in the game, so that I can breakpoint on it and work backwards.

My main focus next is to try to figure out how the .tex files are formatted. I need to program a tool for .tex -> .png / .png -> .tex image conversion.

We could also use some more translators. It's really going to be too much work for just one person to translate it all...

Hello! I joined up this forum for this translation thread! I just wanted to recommend someone for translations!

This person here has finished a considerable amount and still ongoing. They already finished Lancer's SG. Maybe they could help?
I can help with translation as long as I can get a text dump. I can also help with Image Editing and Video Editing!

P.s. I've been a fan of Type Moon works since the first game, Tsukihime ;w; )b

Yep, they were the first person that I contacted. They are the one translator that this project has so far. :)

How fluent in Japanese are you?

We now have two translators working on this project. Welcome, Archeia! :)

As for an update on progress, I ran into some problems with EBOOT text re-insertion, so I am working on fixing that. After, I'll get back to the images (which may be editable right from Tile Molester and might not need a special program).

The text re-insertion for the EBOOT is now working properly. Without going into too much detail, after re-inserting the text into the EBOOT it was making the image that appears above the dialog box when someone is speaking (I'm assuming it's the character name) simply not be loaded and shown. I pinpointed what was causing it and it now is fixed.

On a side note, some of the text from the EBOOT seems to be pulling the half-width English widths from a different place within the game. Meaning the current spacing fix is not applying to it. I'm not too worried about this, because sometime real soon I'll just do some more debugging and locate the value.

And lastly, we're currently aiming for a full menu patch release first. After that, we start earnestly working on the script. We have 2 translators at the moment, I'd say we have room for maybe 1 or 2 more. I'm going for that number in the hopes that it will help lessen the burden placed on any one translator and also help keep the project going at a decent pace.

I'll try and keep you all updated on what's going on as things happen.

The little message that appears across the bottom of the screen, that tells you what you need to do next. That does an auto new line. I'm working on debugging it and increasing the limit. It doesn't allow enough text (there is only room for one line to show on the screen).

You probably want someone who's finished the game at least once to start on the CCC route exclusives right away. Maybe have each translator handle one or two of the Servants each. Get someone who's deep into Fate lore. And a good translation checker.

Well, will you look at that. That was an easy fix:

    Before:

    After:

Now sadly, we cannot have messages in that bottom part of the game that exceed 50 half-width characters. Going beyond that will make the text run off from the PSP screen. That message right there, I shortened as best as I could. It's a limitation of the PSP and there really isn't anything I can do. :/

Both of the translators on the team are fans of the Fate series. And I suppose that I can consult with the fans over at Beast's Lair, but most of their members who are fluent in Japanese are busy with other projects at the moment.

Eliza refers to herself as a 殺人鬼 at the end of her punishment section. The most common translation among Type-Moon fans would be 'homicidal maniac.' See: pretty much every Shiki.

You'll probably also want to discuss how to handle ruby text, not just regarding skills names but also Eliza's usage of animal metaphors as well as a certain line in Casko's ending. And of course, the entire 'are you an idiot' scene with Hakunon and Archer.

Just signed up to say I am immensely happy for everything you're doing, mates. I'm a big Fate fan and really liked EXTRA a lot. Shame it's going to be a year now with not a peep from Aksys, but that only means this will be one hell of a ride for you and your supporters.

I don't know programming or Japanese, but I can write and write well. If you ever need an extra had I'd be willing to help out however I can.

If nothing else you've got my support!

I saw your message at the Beast Lair forum, great to see that there's finally someone who gets this going. Thanks a lot for everything you've done so far neo! I started to play the game some time ago with the help of capella's rough translation and eagerly await each new update. If it helps, I could take another look at her translation starting from scratch and try to improve the grammar etc.
No offense, I'm truly grateful for everything she's done, but there's a good amount of typos and other stuff in there. I would gladly help with that, and if you believe my skills are fine I could help with proofreading new stuff too. My editing skills are almost zero but I could read into that as well if needed.

I've just caught wind of this project on the rumor vine, and have sighed up to offer some help; if you want another translator to work on this just give me a shout.
Also I'm pretty well versed in the Lore side of things and some of the in-jokes if that helps any.
