At this point of Nintendont is USB or SD loading faster/more stable?
USB is faster. My SD card has some delays loading music while my hard drive loads the music immediately.

But if you have a Wii U+hard drive and no Y-cable, an SD card will be more stable in the event the hard drive draws too much power..

Alternately, a normal Wii with a regular USB HDD will run just fine.

Not doubting that others have had issues with SD, but I think SD should be perfectly find in 99% of cases as long as you use as least a Class 10 speed card. If you use a cheaper Class 4 card, you may be inviting problems.

I use SD for GameCube games because I want to use the front USB ports. Using the rear ports is impractical inside my TV unit. I use a Class 10 card with no issues.

I use a WiiU with a External HDD with External power but I keep getting freeze issues since the HDD powers down when dorment....... but it's not supposed to go to sleep since I have disabled sleep mode and it doesn't sleep on Wii Games using USB Loader GX, so I was wondering is I should just use SD...eh?

Try a 16/32 GB USB thumb drive. It is cheap and it does the job perfectly for me.

Just have a 32GB or 64GB Class 10 SD card in the SD slot for GameCube games. Unless you have 100s of games, that should be plenty. It's much tidier than having to keep faffing around with the back of the console.

That would be cool but in Australia these SD cards are pretty expensive whilst USB sticks have drastically dropped in price for 8gb models.

A 32gb SD card is around 60 dollars + whilst a paclk of 3, 8gb Usb sticks are about 16 dollars.

P.s To get around the fiddling around the back of the console I have created a USB extender that sits out of the front of the Wii U, I just plug my sticks in there.

did some more testing tonight, got through F.

Freedom Fighters plays at 2x speed. Tested with DM just to be sure and it works perfect with DM.

Once that very annoying problem is fixed then half of the issue games will become green:lol:

I have a bit of a problem when booting gcn games via a HDD.

Just to set the scene - loading gcn games via the SD card is no problems at all. I use a ps4 connected via usb. I can load it directly from nintendont or from usbloader gx. Everything is great!

Now when I put the same gcn game onto my HDD (usb:games/starfox assault/game.iso)which uses a y-cable (it loads wii games perfectly fine) my wiiu freezes when I get to this screen.

Now I know that the ps4 controller has to be plugged into the bottom rear usb port but when I do so, I can't progress on. No matter what I press the screen will not change.

Any help?

guessing the hdd isnt getting enough power imo, how are you using you Y cable? since you need an extension becuase ps4 controller needs to be plugged on the wiiu lower port and the hdd data entry on the higher back port so the power part of the wii cable needs to be connected to another device that can give it power or the front usb doors on the wiiu if there is enough cable or you have an extension.

Both Pokemon XD and Crystal Chronicles freeze after intro movie when a new game is selected,
however if I make a save file using Dolphin just after that part and transfer it to nintendont, I can play both games just fine

P.S. CC just black screens and the Controller becomes unresponsive just after the movie ends while XD freezes with an annoying noise

Yep that was the issue. I just put my laptop on top of the wiiu and plugged the power usb cable into the laptop. So its working fine now.

Obviously this is a temporary solution. My next question is. If I were to buy a desktop portable HDD, are there any which are more compatible/less compatible with the wii u???

Although you did mention a usb extension cord to connect to the front wii u usb port. Is that possible??
