Hey guys, first time poster, been lurking for a few days since I ordered my Wii U from Nintendo.
It showed up last night along with my copy of MK8, which was awesome fun for the hour or so i had to play last night.
I have some noob questions about homebrew, as it was always my plan to install the HBC so I can do some SNES/NES emulators (my wife loves the oldschool games)
So, forgive me, but please help
My Wii U came with 4.03 installed, but I had to bump it up to 4.1/4.7? I think to install MK8. So I did that, I haven't set up the wifi for the system yet, as i was reading that the update would automatically go to 5.1.1 if it was enable. So with it being still on 4.xx that means I can still install homebrew channel and all associated hb emulators and stuff. My plan was to go buy a 10 dollar used copy of LEGO batman, and an SD card and run the bathaxx instructions I've seen.
Now everyone has been talking about the "webkit" exploit that 5.1.1 stamps out. Is that the same thing as all of the homebrew installation methods (smash stack, indiana pwns, bathaxx, etc)
Essentially what I'm wondering is, if I were to install the homebrew channel using one of aforementioned methods, and then update my console to 5.1.1 (to use the online and stuff), would the HBC simply stop working? or would the homebrew apps not load? or what are the exact consequences?
Thanks so much in advance, and again pardon my noobness. Hopefully I can learn and come to be a contributing member of the forum.
