forgive him he just really really likes to ask questionsDude... read the thread.
May I ask what such game could a cheap 4gb game? That I could possibly buy tooJust inject a 4GB header for all roms, it will work There is one on a page somewhere, it works fine with all scene roms, well so far so good for me! My only concern at the moment is using a header that everyone is using at the same time, I can see problems on the horizon with that. I'm going to purchase myself a cheap 4GB copy retail version just to be sure and use that .BIN file. I just don't feel safe using online headers at all!!!
nah dog... better lookin
What is a header? >> A part of your rom, at the beginning of the file. In our case, values around 0x1200.
Is a valid gateway dump of a game mean that I have to actually get the retail cart? >> yup. Or get a dump somewhere which has been done using gateway dumper.
What is a rom cleaner? >> a software name ? i'm not sure
What is "(number) Hex?", or whatever people say when they say something similar to that? >> in a hexadecimal editor everything is displayed in... hexadecimal. If you don't know what hexadecimal notation is, just google it. Here our finds are all related to hexa edit on roms.
What is a hex editor and what is an exchangeable ID? >> hex editor = hexadecimal editor software. Many are freewares. Exchangeable ID is probably referring to the Cartridge id. 16 bytes long value that you can import/export on any game, if the value is valid.
Step 4 tells me to use "Clear" to clear the header content, but im cofused right afterward where it brings up a window and the highlighted file in "file name:" says BravelyDefault_backup.3ds. When i click "save", it just says do you want to replace the file. What should I do? Hey, at least I got somewhere.
>> it was not a "step", just the listing of all actions you can do and the detail of what they do. Check the windows titles, if your filename got "_backup" in it i'm pretty sure that the soft is asking you "where do you want to create a backup of your rom?". After the backup, the soft will work on your original file.
Read the thread, you don't need headers for every specific game they can be adjusted to work.
Im on 4. of the ROM patcher instructions version 0.5. Oh. Am I supposed to rename the highlighted .3ds file to .3dz file at this point?
NVM I completely forgot the 3ds rom editor thing with the hex numbers. I opened it and I have a noticeable question. I noticed that when I "opened rom", it showed that I have no card id. uh is this natural?

So... to make it simple for all the new arrivals on this thread, the complete method to go online is :
1) Just do a cartridge backup with the Gateway dumper, whatever title OR get a ROM which have be done with a Gateway
2) load this dump with Gateway Rom Patcher v0.6. Check that the cartridge ID of the ROM is present (value different than FFFFFF...). Press Export to save a .bin file.
3) get a ROM you want to play online with. Open it with gateway rom patcher v0.6
4) Press import button and load the .bin you just saved. If the .bin not match your rom, an auto fix will be offered. Accept.
5) Press inject to apply the fixed header to the ROM
6) rename your rom .3ds as .3dz and let's try it online with your gateway !
Bonus step if you did all the steps above and the game still can't connect :
7) reload the ROM into gateway rom patcher, change the Manufacturer ID by another one.
loop to step 5.
Maybe first page should be edited.

Just a note that when I dumped my copy of Resident Evil: Revelations (4GB game) that it was dumped into two 2GB files. (3d0, and 3d1.) Just rename the .3d0 file to .3ds and the Gateway Rom Patcher should be able to read the header off of it.
Now I've got a folder with prepatched headers for all my games.
Yes tjexp, it is out.
OH is anyone willing to share their private headers with me
