A couple of friends and I want to play some PC games together! What are some good online games to play? Thanks Tempers!~

Edit: Anything Co-op would be nice! We like to think and work together!

We usually counsel against asking broad questions like "what anime should I watch?" as it is a rather large question to answer.

What sort of games do you like? Pick a style of gameplay and you can probably find enough good multiplayer examples of it to run out your days playing just them let alone any sequels to come for them.
Do you prefer competition or co-op?
Do you mind subscription fees?
Do all your friends have high spec machines? Most devs saw sense and have their PC games not require all singing and all dancing machines and even went so far as to have them work on more modest ones but not all.

Style above was a deliberate word choice as well as genre by which terms like FPS spring up is overly broad as well. You can get basic arena type things, your typical military stuff, proper team based things and much much more.

Anything Co-op! My friend says without downloads if possible! :P We have pretty good computers! 2.6ghz, and 10 gigs of ram! :)

Or, if you pirate, that's playable over LAN without a problem. You can use a virtual LAN, like Hamachi or something, to get connected.

Someone posted this online list of various co-op games, ordered by several different options:

Also, I'd recommend some cool mods, like Goldeneye Source, a recreation of Goldeneye's multiplayer with updated graphics, music, and sounds (and you also don't need to own game to play it--just download the basic source whatever files and you're good to go!).

Minecraft is a good fuck around, but nothing to take seriously. Play it in moderation rather then 48hrs straight.

Borderlands 1-2 are probably top answers. Its just flat fun to play 100%.

A bit more goofy is Ratchet and Clank All 4 One. The game really doesn't hold up for the franchise (probably the worst), but as a party game to play with friends its pretty good.

Fighters can be fun, but can also turn competitive (shameful look) - SSB (super smash bros ) SF4 ect ect ect.

A tactical game is Dead Island. Its a bit slow for those that want an instant in your face experience, but the co-op handles very nicely, to the point where you have 2 parties doing different side quests, and still get credit for them. Also a ton of hidden content. Dead Island Riptide is the same exact game, so again, if you loved the 1st one, ull love the 2nd one.

Left 4 Dead 1-2 : Its ... its just a given this game is included in a list like this. I mean seriously, you have have amazing moments, and huge let downs all in the same game. Its ranked in the top 3 games to play as a co op experience easy.

Castle Crashers
"Technically" Dark Souls (one person has to be the host, the others are ghosts helping that one player)
Mass Effect 3 (online experience): Its pretty good, i never got into myself

*sigh* Call of Duty -.-: I'm so againts me even suggesting this, but its still fun to fuck around ... i guess.
Battlefield Bad Company 2 (cheap & tons of fun to play)
Battlefield 3 : (see call of duty)

Lost planet 2

All of these cost that $$$ yall. However there are alternatives for the cheap (like myself)

Goldeneye Source (as told above)
Quake Live
TF2
Path of Exile
Age of Empires Forgotten Empires
Doom 1 & 2
Starcraft 2 (free version)
Dota 2

=====

I mean this was just from the top of my head, i could sit here for an hr and post a dam paragraph, as it is i spent 5min just typing all this crap. So enjoy, games are always more fun with more people, especially if you have a group of 4 and are all close friends. Enjoy your time with them, i did until it stopped =(.

Here are a few that my friends and I have enjoyed playing:

Borderlands 1/2 - others have mentioned these
Halo Custom Edition - crazy mods and maps (Zelda, Mario, Sonic, etc )
Age of Empires 2 - old one is still great, but HD one on Steam is modern computer friendly
Guild Wars 2 - action and team oriented mmorpg (buy once, no subscription fees)
Modded Modern Warfare 2 - lots of fun possibilities
Chivalry - medieval combat, ctf, objectives, etc
Monaco - top down stealth coop game
Castle Crashers - multiplayer beat em up like classic TMNT
League of Legends - online battle arena
Minecraft - before all our favorite mods were discontinued...but still fun if you haven't played it yet

Terraria and Magicka are awesome and cheap games. I rather liked the Lost Planet 2 multiplayer campaign myself. And if you don't mind not co-opping the original Unreal Tournament (1999, I think, so it runs on nearly anything) is still awesome. Also, Portal 2 if you've never played it, but that's max 2 players.
League of Legends can be fun with a bunch of friends but not everyone likes that sort of thing. You'd need to actually try a few co-op vs AI games.

/thread really.
This site sums it all up, have fun.
+1 for League of Legends btw, it's the biggest game in the world for a reason, great fun with some friends, I've been playing it for the past year, every evening, with some friends on Skype.
