Still getting it on the Wii U despite the PC being far more powerful than any game console. If people are gonna lose sleep over trying to spot the graphical differences between versions.....never mind. Ah the trivialities of game console comparisons :creep:

Getting the Wii U version regardless. I'm not a graphics whore. I think current gen graphics are phenomenal as they are. I had a choice last week. Get a PS3 with it's huge libary of games at low prices or a Wii U. I went for a Wii U simly because of the gamepad gimmick. Playing on the TV with a simple gaming pad has lost it's appeal to me. Having a handheld touch screen in conjunction of a TV the possibilities of what could be done blows my mind. So yeah, I love my Wii U regardless of the haters and it's inbetween gen tech.

Eh. Not trying to be a "graphics whore" but the reason I'm considering the PS3/PS4 versions is because of the exclusive content... and because the PS3 is my main console this gen.

If it's anything like the Assassin's Creed "exclusive content", it's going to be some shitty short fetch-quest that will eventually come to the other platforms as DLC.

There will always be graphical differences in game consoles and PC's, people. Get over it. It's more important to be vociferous about the game libraries of those systems than what those games look like. I have two DVD players. You think I really care what they look like? I care more about how well they work and how much enjoyment I get out of them.

And how can this even remotely be considered news? We all know that the Wii U has a different graphics engine than the PS4/Xbone. One more person affirming this is pretty much stupid.

I like how people are going "It's just a bad port!" despite the fact it's running on clearly inferior hardware than the next gen and PC versions.

It's okay your $300 inferior hardware will have it's day.

Do you want me to get you some popcorn while you wait? I'm still waiting for the day consoles with superior win a generation :creep:

The Wii U probably cost Nintendo about $300-400 per unit during its initial production run, which means it probably has the equivalent of $300-400 worth of wholesale-value hardware in it from 24 months ago.

The PS4 will probably have about $600-700 worth of wholesale hardware circa 9 months ago in it.

The only things you should take away from that:

1) Releasing the Wii U with older hardware and little in the way of compelling content was possibly a bad move because the exclusive "next generation" time did not help Nintendo sell many consoles but it did decrease the power of the hardware the Wii U could contain at the same price point. The Wii U is probably equivalent to what a low end gaming PC was 18 months ago.

2)The XBone and PS4 are going to be equivalent to what mid-range gaming PCs were 9 months ago.

3)If all you care about is console power, then put your $600 in the bank and go out and buy a $300 graphics card in a year or two. You'll have $300 plus interest left over in the bank and be able to upgrade your PC into a system much more powerful than any of the three major consoles.

4) Most of the AAA titles on the PS4 and XBone are not exclusives and many are going to be available on the PC. The Wii U is going to be the only home console to run the many exclusive Nintendo titles and the early could help them sell more units in the long run as they will be able to price their console much more aggressively.

In my opinion, the PS2/Gamecube/Xbox generation was the last console to offer a revolutionary increase in graphics (the Gamecube for instance was a huge step up from the N64 and PSX). People were able to create 3D games on them with few obvious polygons and the current generation of consoles like the Wii, Xbox 360, and PS3 can render shapes that look, for all practical intents and purposes, perfectly curvilinear. I think game designers will really have to reach hard to make games for the new consoles that were not possible on older generation hardware. That is not to say games with graphics that were not possible, but something truly revolutionary.

And at the end of the day, most AAA titles are probably going to have a PC version too, so Wii U owners can play a lot of the games that might not release a Wii U port due to its lesser hardware.

>Thinking console power has anything to do with the ultimate victor, rather than a variety of other concurrent factors
>Having to rely on a precedent fallacy
>Non-green green text outside of 4chan

It's a lel-mon party!

No offence, but I think its obvious many people here don't have technical know-how in terms of how a processor and GPU work with RAM.

Devs cannot build a WiiU game the same way you would say a PC version or an xbone or PS4 version. As a developer, you sort of have to pick which system you are truly focusing on, and then make fast ports to the rest (or conversely have a separate team build the game multiple times for each platform). Because the ps4 and xbone are very smilar in how they operate from an architecture standpoint, they will pool resources into it.

For the WiiU though, the way you design a game has to be different. If you try to load everything into the processor and just use RAM on the side to dump sprites and the GPU just for certain graphic rendering is poor practice. You will find going forward that all games made by nintendo will be gorgeous because they will optimize their build to get the most out of the system. It isn't even close to the xbox 360 or ps3 (and people who have made comparisons seriously don't understand computer architecture).

If we just look at the PS4 and wiiU processor you are only look at about a 30% increase in power. And in fact, this number is inflated because anyone who understands how gaming works knows that having 8 cores isn't technically that any better than 4. In fact most games are built around 2 cores, with the occasionally using 3 and rarely if any using 4, because they don't really have a use for going more than that (heck only games like crysis 3 use more than 2 cores). It requires complex programming and isn't always worth the effort to program for extra cores. The PS4 and the xbone need more cores because of how much multitasking, and this is why they also have much more RAM. They will be heavily multitasking for things like game-recording and sharing (like running FRAPS), side-loading other software simultaneously, social media, etc so they will use the extra cores. But the WiiU wasn't designed the same way, it is meant to primarily be only a gaming device so it doesn't need more than 3 cores really (though personally I'd put in 4 cores just in case).

The area where the PS4 really shines though (compared to Xbone and WiiU) is in its GPU. We are looking at maybe 5 times the teraflops over the WiiU. What realistically this will mean is a heavy use of physics in PS4 games. However, much like the issue with WiiU, how many devs will actually use it? So I expect, much like with the WiiU, only Sony will really capitalize on their GPU by using their own studios to build around it. AAA titles that are not exclusives will probably just build around the lowest common denominator (ie xbone).

I don't think people need to worry. Games on the WiiU will look phenomenal. If you really want the best graphics, go PC obviously. Consoles are really for couch-gaming and exclusives.
