While the user is wrong for bothering people without reading the stickies, I think that in no way means you should retaliate and direct him to shock sites. You aren't forced to answer and a 5-word post isn't taking that a lot of time to read. If you dislike it that much, can't you just report it?

Dudes, on the home screen it will be told if it is hacked or not. GBAtemp is one of the biggest sites that keeps you all updated with this type of stuff.
Remember to visit the stickies in the 3DS hacking and homebrew section, too.

I'm sorry i'm just tired of people asking 'is the 3ds hacked yet?' Or 'roms plz.' Even 'link to hack? Can't they read the sticky?
You've been here for less than a month. You're not tired of anything yet. If you are, then just leave. We have enough smartass white-knights here as it is.

will this hack be released with a compiler?
What I imagine is that the exploit itself is only used to retrieve your system's console specific keys.
Once you have those for that system, they will probably release a tool that allows you to sign executables to run on your 3DS system, simply from the home menu.

Ok i know i may be yelled or something else but if you want homebrew so bad why not use the app that enables you to write your own freaking homebrew thats already available on the eshop its called petit computer and its pretty damn cool. And better yet if we all started using it alo maybe nintendo might wanna release a better app for doing so. Now i know cracking the 3ds will mena you can do anythign u want which is pretty cool i mean i myself would love to have a custom like firmware made by people and see all the stuff it can do, but right now u have a perfect app that lets u creat ur own games and apps all for 8 bucks.

I really aught to yell at you, because petit computer is a really restricted environment compared to conventional homebrew.
On top of that it runs in DSi mode and not in 3DS mode, and you have to program it through the 3DS itself, I think.

Do you really think any meaningful emulation will come out of petit computer? It won't even have access to the 3DS accelerometer or gyroscope for that matter.

And that does not mean we cant make stuff does it many people have made some pretty damn cool stuff so far with it and im saying maybe if nintendo sees this maybe it might make someone want ot make an app that fully utilizes the 3ds hardware for something like petit computer or maybe nintendo might make one

You're missing the point, Petit Computer will still be a restricted environment, whereas homebrew actually offers proper freedom to do things.
Like file-access, that's a HUGE one. There are DS homebrews that can read-write off the microSD card for all manner of purposes. I am doubtful Petit computer can do that.

Even Petit Computer will not offer everything that a homebrew developer would aspire to use.

I've never used Petit Computer, but I suspect (someone correct me if I've misjudged it) to be like many of the other "average consumer" development platforms: Gary Kitchen's Game Maker, SEUCK and even slightly lower level development tools aimed at non-traditional coders. They're great for knocking out a low system-intensive retro style game, but they can't truly exploit the hardware they're running on and usually come w/ massive overhead. You just can't even hope to make anything ground breaking w/ that type of tool.

For the truly ambitious they end up ultimately being like trying to bang out a kick ass game on an old 8-bit computer w/ it's in-built BASIC instead of in assembler/machine code. You have the overhead of translating high level code to machine code at run time and have no access to special features built into the hardware in question. In C=64 speak, no zero page. In Amiga speak, no copper listing or BOBS. In Nintendo speak, no Mode X. It's damn near like trying to code on an early-beta emulator instead of the actual hardware you're targeting.

I'd REALLY like to see some scene demos for the 3DS. I'm pretty sure some absolutely amazing things would be done... And I'm reasonably certain they aren't going to be done (or even possible) w/ Petit Computer.

No. That is not possible. The keys stored on the 3DS itself are not enough to sign content. The exploit will be used for loading code of all sorts.

You want to be able to take the governor off your sports car? Why not pay X amount and take it on a race course where your still governed but your allowed to speed a bit.

There's already several compilers for ARM, like the ones included with the DS's homebrew toolchain, devkitARM. I'd hope an update/equivalent to that would arrive before the hack is released, otherwise you'd end up with a boatload of apps being built with the leaked SDK, like what happened on the PS3.

No, and gbatemp isn't the only place in the internet where people ask these stupid questions, i'll rather be a 'smartass whitenight' than an annoying dolt that asks questions without even doing ANY kind of research.

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

  • cearp @ cearp:
@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
