Never did understand why they had 3 Game stores and a Gamestation all within a short walking distance between them all where i live.

This is more up-to-date and more official as of today, when I saw it on-line earlier from another source.

I've been recently watching this news, very closely with rumours of Wal-Mart taking a possible interest in purchasing the troubled company.

I remember years ago, when the store based at Lion Walk in Colchester, Essex (which currently hasn't been affected yet by the closures) used to be Electronics Boutique.

No wool pulling, Game bought out Gamestation when they went through an expansion phase, but, due to bad management they didn’t close stores that were near to each other and ended up competing with themselves. Where I live they have two Game stores and a Game Station within a few minutes’ walk of each other.

One of the shops is right next to a CEX (Second hand hardware, phones, games and films) and their second hand games are usually half the price of those in Game, and they both buy them for roughly the same from the customers. Game and Gamestation also usually sell games at the RRP, not many other shops do now.
Similar close to where I tend to be; there's a GAME (closed according to the list), and possibly another indoor one close by, not far from a Gamestation and CEX on the same street as each other.

That's not what I meant by "competing" - what I meant was literally fighting using price cuts. When GAME had a price cut, Game Station made an even bigger one and vice-versa. Seeing that they were owned by the same company, one would expect both to have the same prices UNLESS they were purposely directing their clients from one store to the other using prices depending on their stock, which is pulling wool over customers' eyes.

Must spend my £2.58 of game credit...
They're not accepting Reward Cards.

This legitimately sucks. I'm hoping they get bought over (though whoever buys them over is still going to close sotres. GAME have so many. Here in Glasgow City Centre there's one in Buchanan Galleries, one in St. Enoch Centre, one on Sauchiehall Street not far from a GameStation. They just have too many physical presences in one place. The Buchanan Galleries and Sauchiehall street shops are literally a 5 minute walk away from each other. Though the Sauchiehall street one has a bigger store but probably less exposure than the Galleries one.
Anyway if I hear tell of a firesale I am going to be tempted to check it out but it'll likely be mobbed if there is.

Edit: Stores are closing based on how much profit it brings in i.e. whichever rent costs more and what stores bring in the most money.

There's been a sale for quite some time. Stock isn't going to get any lower and it's been creeping back up for a week.

My timing was practically perfect, in that case. I had about £17 of credit after getting my 3DS at quite a cheap price (before the cut, now an Ambassador), and getting Mario Kart 7 (and when I got MK7 I'd forgotten I had a card at all until I was reminded; I didn't have it with me so they were added remotely). I used it on Friday (as I said in my earlier post), and even that was because someone else had mentioned needing to use theirs. (Thank you @Flame)

Electronics Boutique are better, probably as they are Gamestop but Australian and Canadian. Generally the people at GAME never knew shit about games. Most of the times in store I got in arguements with the staff for ripping customers of and giving them false information. I am glad they are gone, hopefully the don't come back. But that's just me.

I had a check in-store as to what my point balance was, and I made an account on the website just to link my card and get something online because the online prices are slightly cheaper.

I spent my reward points on psn vouchers weeks ago. Hopefully someone else starts selling the smaller ones (£5,£10 and £15), and not just the £25 and £50.

I was going to make some snarky pun about the whole situation, but eh. This really sucks for those 2,000+ people now without work; hopefully the job market treats them kindly.
