OP

At first, we wanted to include a feature where friends could gather like this directly on Nintendo 3DS, but schedule-wise it was tight and wouldn't fit. So I said, "I'll do it with Mario Kart 7." Having said that, I knew I had to think of something and drew a rough plan on a big sheet of paper.

Further proof that the 3DS was rushed to launch.

Fuck, you ninja'd :ninja: me by 10 minutes...
Anyways, this is very surprising to me. I wouldn't of minded if Nintendo delayed the 3ds to implement this feature fully. Then Nintendo would have substantially boosted the 3ds' online gaming capabilities and give the vita a run for it's money on that regard. Make it happen Nintendo.

Because we know exactly when they thought about this and because not having a feature at launch means it was rush.

Anyway, maybe in the OS someday.

Stop being so naive. If they had to cut features to get it out sooner, then yes, it was rushed. Of course it was! It was missing advertised features left and right, the menu was full of placeholder buttons. There's still one left in the firmware now.

Internet Browser, System Transfer... I know a few others were in the Settings menu as well, I just don't remember what.

I am so pissed that the console is STILL unfinished. It's been half a year and they sold something that wasn't even finished. Flaws, both hardware and software wise.

I was just thinking back about how ps1 games wouldn't be at launch on the psv, but I guess that not the same thing.

So, maybe I am naive with this.

Most software and hardware nowadays receive feature cuts. That's more common than you think.
(Ok, I should come up with a link with proof, but I dont have any with me right now.)

Please note, I'm not saying it wasn't rushed or it was rushed. I'm just saying feature cuts is something normal, and happens all the time.

What about when a product is released without advertised features on the promise that they will be added later, and the OS has several placeholder buttons for not-yet added features?

Not that common, but happens.
Also, I remember someone saying "that's what DLC's are all about!" in a different topic on the same subject lol

There's a BIG difference between:

"yeah, we had to remove this(these) feature(s) from the final product due to time constraints, technical difficulties, unforseen circumstances"

and

"you just paid $250 for a system. As a bonus feature, half of the buttons on the GUI will, when pressed, say "This feature will be added later through a system update"!"

One is having to cut from the final product. Movies, games, programs do this all the time. In movies, they include "deleted scenes". In games, sometimes you can access special maps via the console.

The 3DS, however, made no attempt to "cut" things from the system. They just riddled the system with placeholders.

So that delay for the firmware update is not by accident.
don't assume this will hit the 3DS any time soon. and in any case, i don't really see the connection...

anyway, it was a tight schedule, and plans were dropped along the way, but i'm still happy they stuck to the schedule. here's to hoping they get back to implementing those going forward.

I recall the only placeholders were the DSiware/System transfer button and the internet browser, I dont call 1 button on the home menu and a missing eShop "Full of place-holders"

You know that there's a way out of this. Sell your 3DS and you don't have to deal with that flawed and unfinished system anymore. Easy as that...

The console is turning out fine now, but you can't get defensive when I say Nintendo dropped the ball on the launch. Unfinished OS, no worthwhile games, hardware problems, $250 price tag. I would have much preferred to see the console several months later with everything in place.

@Xdqwerty I like how the game had the middle ages 1000AD, the dark ages 600AD.It was great seeing the post robot apocalypse 2300 like Terminator and enter the matrix. some of mad max and fallout. 2300ad though it could had used more elements instead of just a generic ai uprising. It was a great idea for their judgement day to be 1999 Y2K.

-great additions if they would have made an expansion or dlc in my opinion would be finding out humans trapped in a matrix -

a follower having a cyborg character living tissue over metal endoskelleton like terminator, and the synths from fallout

4After Zeal fell it would have been good to see more ancient eras. Perhaps Sumeria based in one area, then Egypt based in another area, Greek based in another area, then roman based in another area before the middle ages.---------

----between 1000ad and 1999 is a big gap they should have had the age of revolution like the american and French Revolution

then the cowboyy era in one area of map and the Industrial revolution/age of enlightmentthen a ww1 and ww2 and a cold war era
