Been watching commercials from the 90s, and I can't help but remember how popular Barbie was back then.

WTF happened?

How did Barbie turned from a toy that teaches girls that they can be whatever they want, to being a toy that teaches girls someone they cannot be?
Who fucked up toys for children?

Monster High apparently was recalled after making the dolls really skinny, they did this to most likely stop girls from developing eating disorders.

Wut.

Monster High was never recalled and it's still being sold.

Maybe you got them confused with Bratz dolls?
Bratz doll sales were placed on hold when Mattel sued the designer for copyright infringement, but the ruling was overturned and Bratz are back in business.

"Monster High has some controversy and criticism, citing that the dolls' unrealistic bodies, often revealing outfits, and characters' focus on romantic relationships were a bad influence on young children."

Yes but "criticism" is not the same as being recalled, isn't it?
And Barbie has been lambasted for "unrealistic body standards" since it came out.
