I know this is probably patched everywhere, you can't find anything online since people might use this to hack the system and crash the plane or something, but I really want to play something else like Minecraft but obviously, it's not on there. Any way to install games on plane infotainment?

This would probably get you banned from flying for life, just bring a tablet, laptop or something like a switch or steamdeck and play minecraft on that. Could you provably install something to it? Maybe who knows is it a good idea if you ever want to ride on a plane again probably not.

Hard agree. Any attempt to hack any plane equipment for any reason is bound to get you arrested at the very least.

Sure. if you're able to dig it out of the plane seat and connect something to it, maybe. But you probably will get on a no-fly list faster than you can dig the screen out.

Holy f!ck, dude, would it be such searing agony to read a book or something for a couple of hours? Why would you even want to play Minecraft on a system like that? They're typically slow and unresponsive.

There are probably a whole bunch of different entertainment systems in use at the moment, each running different software and probably even different versions of the same software, such that even if there was an exploit, odds are it wouldn't work for whatever system you happen to end up with. (I'm pretty sure at least some of them are using custom builds of Linux that probably wouldn't even be compatible with apk packages.)

Yeah... I didn't know it was that bad, is it even connected to the pilots? I doubted it was, in case someone ever did something like that, I thought that it was on its own single system.

Those systems are connected to a network on that plane. It's how they stream media and receive announcements. Whether that network is isolated or connected to interior systems, who knows. Likely it isn't, but tampering with it is likely to cause a lot of legal issues.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM

  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds

It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
