  • NinStar @ NinStar:
the R4 clones I have here are from exactly 10 years ago
  • NinStar @ NinStar:
Gold and Dual Core from 2014
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@anotherthing, If you pick up the 369-in-1 GBA cartridges, you can reprogram them with your own GBA ROMs using the multi-menu builder rather than have only half GBA and the rest NES games.
  • A @ anotherthing:
In fact, even though I have a DS Lite, one of the reasons I got the DS ML is to update ROM Hack cartridges.

I still have my supercard dstwo, but it is dead, don't know what happened to it
  • A @ anotherthing:
    Those are pricey.
  • NinStar @ NinStar:
the other two clones are still working
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@NinStar, Those have gone up a lot in price. Stupid scalpers.
  • NinStar @ NinStar:
@anotherthing I got it second hand around 2013 for relatively good price

  • NinStar @ NinStar:
    with the package and all
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
That's great. Do you remember the price at all?
  • A @ anotherthing:
For some reason, my DSi won't read the DSTwo, though. Everything else does, and the DSi has no problem with any other cartridge.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@anotherthing, It likely was either blacklisted in a later firmware update if you get an error when booting the cart, or the cart needs cleaning.

  • NinStar @ NinStar:
it was around USD50, direct conversion (not considering inflation at the time)

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    What a steal! $50 USD ain't bad.
  • A @ anotherthing:
@SylverReZ I'm running Twilight Menu on the DSi. Wouldn't that bypass the firmware lockout?
  • NinStar @ NinStar:
I used it to play a lot of snes on my DSi

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@anotherthing, Yes. TWiLight Menu++ and NDS Bootstrap will boot unsupported flashcarts.
  • A @ anotherthing:
It's odd then. The DSTwo works in everything else. And every other cartridge works in the DSi.

  • A @ anotherthing:
It's just the DSTwo and the DSi that don't work together.

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
The DSi incorporated a 'cart whitelist', this isn't anything region-related as all original DS/DSi game carts will boot. But, older flashcarts that didn't use flashcart firmware updates will not work due to how they beefed up the security. So, manufacturers came up with the idea to 'spoof' the game information with an original to circumvent the protection, whilst retaining the blowfish encryption and signatures.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Not only does this 'whitelist' apply to the DSi, but also the 3DS and its family of consoles. The original DS doesn't care about if the cart's information was tampered with and would boot if the game icon or title was modified.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
You can install custom firmware onto your DSi or 3DS to make these flashcarts work again (including the M3DS or DSTwo as you had mentioned).
  • A @ anotherthing:
Yeah, that's pretty crappy. As a general rule, if I can get my hands on it, that's what I play. Even though I build SD cards for flash cartridges with everything I can get on there, it's more about the challenge of seeing what I can do with the space provided and what I can get working.
  • A @ anotherthing:
I still only play the things on there I own.
