I agree always backup your saves before cheats but... In this case its not really that damaging. I looked through that entire section of memory and from my limited understanding it will just write the next new item you acquire to the next available address. (And there is more than enough to go around.) This is the reason why my cheat addresses were so much further down than patjenova's and in a completely different order. When I initially used his cheats it filled those addresses with junk values that didnt have an identity yet, so when I did pick up that item for the first time it had to push it much further down the address list. This is why his cheats didnt work but I still could make cheats for me. Think of how a traditional RPG item list works. There is an order that can change except we dont have any slot IDs and cannot move items around to figure it out. There is no universal order. They just show up in your inventory in the order you got them. I promise Patjenova's pointers are correct. Its just a quirk with how this game stores values that is the problem. The only other alternatives would be to write an assembly cheat that negates when you spend items or add instead of subtract, but that would still require you to have the materials, or write a cheat the loops through every possible address. (I wouldnt recommend this option though since it could actually be problematic if you didnt have every consumable/material already. If you still have doubts, I havent looked at the savedata but it might also be possible to edit the values that way. It wouldnt be permanent, but honestly you dont need more than 999 for everything other than adamantine which you need 99999 of. Unfortunately, these are just the limitations of the game. Sometimes you just cant bend the code to your will the exact way you want. (I mean...you can, its just not easy to share as most cheats.)
I feel like school, back when I was actually in school, was more entertaining though, because of how much I get to interact with people, hang out with friends, and other stuff like that. All I get to talk to at work is my boring coworkers lol
