Hacking [Tutorial] For those unlucky to own a Japanese Wii U - How to play in English, problematic games

He meant that, despite of being USA version, if played in a Japanese Wii U, they switch language automatically to Japanese. At least one of the games can be reverted to English by the game option menu itself, like Devil's Third. Others probably remain in Japanese and don't have a language options.

    Wii U Japanese dilemma

I think it varies from case to case. For me, the games that crashed on splash screen, I already fixed, and now, the olnly thing I really care is to have the system language in English (which I partially achieved by reading this thread,) Mostly for the settings, not that I'm always messing up...

Hacking [Tutorial] For those unlucky to own a Japanese Wii U - How to play in English, problematic games

Very nice! But I'm a little ignorant to work with hexadecimal programs, I can't figure out what I'm looking at haha. My app.xml solution came from a lot of trial and error, the updates were driving me crazy.

Hacking [Tutorial] For those unlucky to own a Japanese Wii U - How to play in English, problematic games

Yeah, not every game with updates will revert to Japanese, it depends which files the Update will add. For the ones in the first post, that I said to edit the app.xml, though, I had the problem of reverting back to Japanese, like Mario Kart 8. I didn't know that Updates and DLC are downloaded to...

Hacking [Tutorial] For those unlucky to own a Japanese Wii U - How to play in English, problematic games

Maybe, you can download the game, the update (JPN and US versions), merge and overwrite the Update folders and files (US game with US Update, and same for the JPN version). After all is merged, make the swap of language files, and follow the procedures to re-encrypt and install. I don't know if...

    Wii U Japanese dilemma

For Pikmin 3 in english, I have a tutorial for running it on Wii U (JPN) without freezing on splash screen: https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-for-those-unlucky-to-own-a-japanese-wii-u-how-to-play-in-english-problematic-games.572494/

    Wii U Japanese dilemma

I tried again, this time it worked (using FTPii). Not for the fainted of heart though. I'll wait for the tutorial anyways, since some files must be overwriting, others edited, for now, just to have the settings in english is a blast, how hard would be for Nintendo to let the language options of...

    Wii U Japanese dilemma

Which ones we simply can replace with the Us version of the file? I swapped all AllMessage ones with their US counterpart, but everything still in japanese, not a single line of text it's in English...

    Wii U Japanese dilemma

Man, you don't know how much I looked for this. It's a pain in the a** to deal with settings in japanese. If by any chance, you can't find the rest of Japanese text, at least, release the tutorial for the things you're already fixed, please!

Mario Kart 8 (USA) not loading on "region free" European Wii U

If you don't mind to abandon the disc and instead, download and install in an external HD, here's a tutorial for making different region games (that freezes on the splash screen like MK8) to work. The thread was wrote to make USA games to work on Japanese console, but the logic of the tutorial...

Hacking [Tutorial] For those unlucky to own a Japanese Wii U - How to play in English, problematic games

1- Download the Update files of the game you want to prevent from automatically updating, and decrypt it, using the tutorial on the first post of the thread. 2- Decrypt the main game files too. 3- Open the app.xml file, located on the CODE folder of both your Update and Game decrypted files...

Hacking [Tutorial] For those unlucky to own a Japanese Wii U - How to play in English, problematic games

Nope, your japanese Wii U will always look for the JP/Ja folder only, which means you only need to paste the msbt files from the US/En folder into the JP/Ja folder. You can ignore the other bunch of languages. Basically, you're tricking your Wii U by placing different files in the folder where...

Hacking [Tutorial] For those unlucky to own a Japanese Wii U - How to play in English, problematic games

You mean the change in the xml file? It's simple, I've downloaded the update files too, decrypted it, and compared to the xml files of the vanilla game folder. So, for example, the xml file of vanilla was "1", and the xml file of the update folder, in the same line was "16", it means that if you...

Tutorial Emulate a Wii NAND to keep your Wii clean

Link for the tools in the first post is dead. Do someone have it? If it only would have a list of which programs are contained in the download link, we could look for them in other places. I remember I followed this tutorial for my old Wii, it was a blast because I was emulating USA system while...

Hacking [Tutorial] For those unlucky to own a Japanese Wii U - How to play in English, problematic games

Sorry, I really don't know. All I did, was following threads specifically to Wii U games and software for it. I don't know how Wii games are structured and how to access/replace files.

Hacking [Tutorial] For those unlucky to own a Japanese Wii U - How to play in English, problematic games

I'm glad to know it helped you! But yeah, it's a little complicated. As long as you do it with calm, read carefully, at least, you need to do only one time per game. I have backups on my computer for all games that I fixed. If for some reason I loose this backups, I'll need to follow my own...
