    Hmmm... when I upgraded to 128 gb from 32gb, I just formatted the new card then copied all the files over. Didn't realize I was supposed to take extra steps. Maybe that's why my Retroarch is trippin.

    I had the exact same experience and replacing the sd card reader fixed it. Try backing up your sd files, then formatting the SD card in the switch. If it's able to format the sd reader is probably not your problem... but I'm willing to bet it won't be able to.
