Hacking Switch Cartridge - Reverse Engineering

That would require to find out the pins of the cartridge socket. Not impossible but using a second PCB would be the easiest indeed.

Hacking Switch Cartridge - Reverse Engineering

I'm currently a student so money is my biggest issue. Getting a PCB developed does not cost a lot of money these days. Shipping (still) does through. Unless we want this to go on snail speed I'd need to pay extra for DHL shipping. I've been waiting for about 2 months on one of my PCB designs and...

Hacking Switch Cartridge - Reverse Engineering

.3ds roms were online way before anyone made an emulator or working flash cart, dumping is easier then getting them to run again. Thanks for your comment and I'll keep everyone posted Thanks!

Hacking Switch Cartridge - Reverse Engineering

Mobile phones just use normal NAND or eMMC memory, there is nothing special about it. Difference is that they often have parts on the drives that the system marked as removed but aren't actually erased yet. Some forensic kits make use of this to recover removed data Also most phones are...

Hacking Switch Cartridge - Reverse Engineering

I don't think this is the case, but I guess time will tell. Adding CPU-Protection and stuff really adds up on production costs when you make millions of them. Impossible? No, definitely not. Unlikely? Yes. Anyways right now I'm probably going to design a PCB for the switch where I can solder...

Hacking Switch Cartridge - Reverse Engineering

Well, thats where you're wrong haha. There is a lot that needs to happen and to be figured out before one can develop a flashcart. This is just the first, get to know what you're copying before you're going to copy it. I highly doubt flashcarts will be available in the next 12 months

Hacking Switch Cartridge - Reverse Engineering

Very, very intresting. Custom chip with the pads for the switch directly attracted to the back?

Hacking Pin layout of Switch's game card?

Hey everyone! Just a heads up, from now on I'll be posting in: http://gbatemp.net/threads/switch-cartridge-reverse-engineering.464580/

Hacking Switch Cartridge - Reverse Engineering

As promised, the pinout and high quality pictures of the PCB For me it looks like a normal NAND chip, however it seems to have a rather odd pinout, that does not match regular TSOP48 NAND chips. It most likely is a 8-bit channel NAND chip though, which should be readable (Oh, and the...

Hacking Pin layout of Switch's game card?

Lets move up the ETA to right now! Time to get this bad boy open -- UPDATE: Tough one to open, it has lots of very thick and strong plastic. But I managed! I'll post pictures and some other information later today in a new thread so its a bit more clearer. (One hint: It only has 1 chip...

Hacking Pin layout of Switch's game card?

I'll see what I can do, the heated wire or needle technique sounds quite well. Although I could probably just use my 0.3mm micro soldering iron as its thin enough, would need to clean off the burned plastic residue after it though EDIT: Yeah the 0.3mm soldering iron definitely is the way to go!

Hacking Pin layout of Switch's game card?

The seller will send out the package tomorrow, knowing the mail system around here it will probably arrive in 2-3 days from now After that I'll start slow and move towards more aggressive techniques to try and keep the cartridge in good shape. ETA can be set at 4 days from now for the pictures

Hacking The Switch is NOT hacked.

Nothing personal, but you were probably like the 5th or so person that told me it's real because "webkit exploit". I don't even think they know what it means and how one makes use of an actual exploit in the webkit framework. Not only is webkit sandboxed, secured and running as a separate...

Hacking The Switch is NOT hacked.

Why do people keep praising "webkit exploit" like god is for Christians? There most likely is no hack or exploit that actually allows anyone to do anything working right now, if you have to believe Luca's tweet it looks like he remote connected into the Switch, which is VERY unlikely

Hacking Pin layout of Switch's game card?

Alright, ordered a copy of 1, 2, Switch. Will post results in the upcoming days. Yeah, that's why I listed it as a PoC. I assume there is some kind of protection built in, hopefully someone else will make some progress in cracking it or hopefully there will be some more information out there...

Hacking Pin layout of Switch's game card?

Yeah my current plan would be to buy a second hand copy of 1, 2, Switch! and use my hot air station to soften the plastic and cut it open. I can provide: - (Most likely) a pin out for Switch cartridges - High resolution pictures of both sides of the PCB - List of chips used and the values of...

Hacking Pin layout of Switch's game card?

I'd definitely be able to figure out some of the pins by inspecting the switch's cartridge reader itself The most interesting part are the IO connections though, which are close to impossible to separate from each other even by checking their dataflow with my oscilloscope I'm most interested in...

Hacking The maker of the iOS 10.2 jailbreak managed to hack the Switch

Are you dense? You CANT just hack a device and successfully break out of a webkit process without changing the code in a way its actually usable. If you truly believe he hacked the switch simply by executing pretty much exactly the same code he used for iOS I'd recommend never talking about...

Hacking The maker of the iOS 10.2 jailbreak managed to hack the Switch

.. Do you seriously think he just grabbed the old iOS 9.3.x exploit and quickly made it work for the switch? Thats just not how hacks like these work, without proper coding it just overwrites a part of the memory and most likely causes the Switch to crash/reboot/freeze.

Hacking The maker of the iOS 10.2 jailbreak managed to hack the Switch

Luca (qwertyoruiopz) is a known troll to the jailbreak community and loves to do things like this. He actually is very capable of making proper hacks though, but I doubt this was a serious tweet.
