    While we couldn't use the old modem anymore, I had an old wireless wifi repeater lying around; after it was configured that did the trick. Doesn't explain why the new modem doesn't allow it... Thanks for your help though!

    It pings when it's connected to the eshop, when I go into the microSD management, but it doesn't ping when it's just sitting on the home screen.

    With the slashes, nothing happened. Without the slashes, it loaded firefox with a connection timed out

    Nothing happened. Put it in the firefox browser, nothing loaded. It did say the connection timed out though
