    Using the editor is what I'm going to do, as this save file looks like a lost cause. I opened it up in the editor and it's all gibberish. I'll just attempt to get all the levels back to similar places and try to beat the game again. Thanks for all the suggestions.

    No, I backed it up myself before she even got here. All I did was rename the file from .sav to .bak and then back to .sav. I don't understand why it would be corrupt.

    I'm not sure what Sakura is, but I'm pretty sure we didn't use it. I'm using Ubuntu, so I don't have any file extensions hidden. When I take off the .sav, it is no longer a save file. Any other ideas?

    It's not creating a new save file. It just isn't reading the data properly. I've double and triple checked the name, even going so far to rename both the rom and the sav file simple identical names to verify the fact. Thank you for the fast reply, though.
