    I do recommend updating to 9.00 and Jailbreaking it on that version I am not aware of any reason to stay on a firmware above version 5.05 that is below 9.00

    You can actually convert your retail game disks into fpkgs and since you have the official disk and can get the latest patches, you should also be able to convert the updates to FPKGs, allowing you to get newer updates than are available easily

    I don't think it is an issue to temporarily remove the DNS and cache an exploit menu so that it can be viewed offline, then you can add the DNS back and not worry about connections to Sony I have been using this exploit menu...

    I believe you can obtain game updates with a method that gets them from sonys servers, But not aware of any way to do this with DLC
